The will of JOHN BURGEYS of Ealding (Yalding). Robert ate Melle, John Barmynge, William Agate and Roger Pochel are enfeoffed in all the lands and tenements of John Burgeys in the town of Ealdyng. After his death they are to permit Alice wife of the said John to take the same for her life. Also if the right heirs of the said John Burgeys pay 60 marcs of silver to the said feoffees then after the decease of the said Alice the said lands and tenements by his deed remain for ever. Otherwise the said lands etc. are to be sold of which the said John Burgeys ordained that 60 marks 40 marcs were to find a chaplain to celebrate in the church of Ealdyng for 4 years for his soul and his parents’ and five marks to the fabric (fabricam) of the said church, to 4 Orders of Friars viz Friars Preachers of Wynchelse, Augustines of Canterbury and Carmelites of Eylesford each 16s. 8d. and each of his feoffees 13s. 4d (= 53s. 4d) and the wife of John Cook 13s. 4d, John son of Margery Storm 6s. 8d, Johan Perys 6s. 8d and four marks for the soul of the said John Burgeys. 
   Also he wished that William Agate by his deed should enfeoff Alice wife of the said John Burgeys in all lands etc. which belong of right to the said Alice, within a quarter of a year after his decease, provided the said Alice pays 5 marcs which the said John gave and ordained to amend the Bridge of Twyforde. Dated at Ealdyng Thursday next before the Feast of All Saints 50th year of King Edward III.
