To be buried in the church of St. Gregory at Canterbury. I remit to Sir Thomas my brother all money he owes and also all my relatives (cognatis) except Robert Clyue who is held to me in 20 marcs of which I remit 10 marcs and the other ten I leave to the daughters of Agnes Graunde. I remit also to all my parishioners of Almesford the third part of all they money detained. I leave to little William my kinsman my bed and all my clothes being at Canterbury except that furred with ‘foynes’ which I leave to Sir John Bedel Vicar of Natyndon and all my books at Canterbury. To the sister of the said William 40s. To Isabell my aunt (avunculo) 40s. I leave brother John Buenynton my kinsman, in the convent of Gloucester 100s that he may dispose them to the use of the said William my kinsman (congati). I leave the Prior and Convent of the Priory of St. Gregory Canterbury 100s. Residue in three equal portions one to the Lord Archbishop of Canterbury that he may defend my executors against my adversaries, the second part to my executors and the third to celebrate for my soul. I constitute the said Sir John Bedel, Sir John Outred, Robert Clyue and John Outred my kinsman executors and as supervisors Thomas my brother and John Cosy.
Proved 15 September 1385 by Sir John Bedel, Sir JohnOutred and John Outred. His is styled ‘our beloved son in Christ Master Walter Cheltenham, rector of the church of Wythyngdon Worcester diocese and Commissary General of Canterbury’. (211b Courteney).
