ROBERT CLERK, rector of Sutton. To be buried among the Friars Minors of Dorcestr. To the church of Canterbury 20s. To the church of Sarum 20s. To the Friars Minors of Dorcestr 100s for the soul of Dame Agnes Countess of Pembroch in masses re. To the fabric of the church of Remisbury all my goods there.
   To Dame Felice Everard a silver covered cup a Ewer of silver gilt and £20, also 18 silver spoons and a red bed. To Agnes Bele a bed ‘ysteynt’. To Sir John Brys 20s. Agnes Golde 40s. To each brother being a priest in the convent of Dorcestr 2s. 6d, and those not priests there 12d. For my burial there 100s. For two anniversaries to be celebrated for the souls of Editha my mother and Robert ate Wyche and Sir Thomas my brother £10.
   To my needy kinsfolk between them 100s. I leave a breviary to serve in the prebendal church of Remmisbury for my soul. I leave to Brother William Benystr to celebrate for me ‘an annual’ 100s. To Sir Robert Babbe rector of the church of Pilsdon
   To my nephew Simon 20s. To Agnes Bele 40s. Residue of my goods being at Adesham I leave to Dame Felice Everard to distribute for my soul. Executors: Dame Felice Everard and Sir John Brys and Sir John Colyford to whom for their expenses I leave £10. Written in the chapel of Adisham 12 March 1380.
   On the 30 April 1382 in the chapel of the manor of Croydon was proved the will of Sir Robert Clerk late rector of the parish church of Sutton in our Diocese by Sir John Brys.
[Note: "Our diocese" points to Sutton being in Eastern Kent. At the beginning of the will he styles himself "Ego Robertus, clericus et Rector de Sutton" but in the Probate Act it will be observed that his name is given as Clerk] [196a Courteney]
