To be buried in the church of Blessed Andrew of Rouchestur viz in the chapel of Blessed Mary of the said church next the stone where John Schepeye now prior of the same church has arranged to lie himself. I leave £200 in gold or silver to be distributed for the soul of William Walworth Knight viz for reparation of ways and other almsdeeds. I leave 200 marcs to be distributed for the soul of John Kyngesford in reparation of ways and distribution to the poor as my executors may arrange.
I wish 100 marcs distributed for the soul of Thomas Medlan Knight, Matilda his wife, and John their son in repair of ways. I wish that £20 of the said 200 marcs for John Kyngesford be paid to the Prioress of Rouspar in Sussex.
I wish that Rose my wife have all my store existing on my manors of Eslyngham and Yfeld except my silver vessels which I wish distributed as follows: To John my son three silver cups each cup of the weight of 30s. and over according to the disposition of his mother. I will that Nicholas my son have a cup of the weight of 40s. and Thomas my son one of 30s. And these cups to remain in custody of Rose my wife. The remainder of my silver vessels to Rose my wife and Matilda my daughter and her part to be in custody of her mother until she shall see fit to release them. To the said Matilda £40 but not to be given until her mother sees fit. I wish my wife Rose to have £200 for the recovery of her ‘status’.
I will that John my son have all my store upon the manor of Duttun Camoys. I will Nicholas my son have all the draught beasts (aurum) and other store in the hands of Robert Potter, farmer of my manor of Mokyndon Hall. I will that Margaret daughter of Matilda my daughter and Johan daughter of Johan my daughter have 200 marcs to their marriages equally divided. If both die then the money to be disposed for my soul. Meanwhile to remain in custody of Rose my wife. I wish that an obligation in which William Pondere, now groom (valettus) is bound be freed to him.
To Robert Spunden 100s., John Wakman senior and John his son 20s., Emmotte my wife’s maiden 20s., to each other maid of my wife 40d. To Richard Trwman and Warno his fellow and Richard Heywarde 20s. between them. To Jac keeper of my stable 20s., William at ye rede 10s., Richard Leuey [?Leney] 20s., to each other servant 40d. To the Prior of Rowchester and his successors 100s. for back arrears of rent "si que fuerint". To John Botild, chaplain, rector of my Chapel of Eslingham 100s. To each house of Friars in Kent and in the City of London and County of Essex 10s. To Rose daughter of Thomas Stutfeld 20s. To Mariot Hunter daughter of John Hunter my wife’s maiden 5 marcs to remain in my wife hands until she shall think best for the said Mariot to release it. To John another of my chaplains dwelling in my house 10s. To each indigent poor on day of my burial 4d.
I will that on the day of my burial there be paid to the Prior and Convent for a meal 40s. I will that their steward (senascallus) shall dispose for them. I will that two secular priests be held for ten years to celebrate for me in the foresaid chapel after Mass of the Blessed Mary and my Mass of Requiem. I leave to the Officer of the sacristy of the said Priory of St. Andrew for light, wine and vestments for the said term 20 marcs. I will that my daughters and their husbands and other special friends shall be at the repast (prandium) in my house on the day of my burial and that black cloth be ordered for them and for my sons and daughters honest cloth proper and decent.
I will that all my tenements in Northflete be sold by my feoffees viz William Screne and William Cherchesey and of the money Rose my wife shall have half and the guardians of Rouchestur Bridge the other half for the use and amending of the Bridge on condition they give reasonable security to find an honest chaplain to celebrate perpetually in the Chapel at the end of the Bridge or elsewhere, and if the said tenements cannot be sold then I wish the said guardians (custodes) of the Bridge to have the reversion to the use of the Bridge and to find a chaplain as above, and if they will not give security then the money to be disposed for my soul to indigent poor.
This will I wish to be made and fulfilled not withstanding another will of mine enrolled in Kings Bench before these times. To Robert Fulborne vicar of the church of Freynysbyry 40d. for tithes forgotten.
Executors: Rose my wife, principal, John Hoke, clerk, Wm. Cheyne son of William Cheyne sometime Recorder of the City of London and John Martyn of Derteford and give each 100s.
