JOHN MEDLANE (1402) To be buried in the church of Clyue. I leave £10 to the burial of my body and distribution to poor people on that day and my month’s day. To the House and Church of Heigham 40s. To the church of Cowlynge 4 mrc. I leave 40s. to the priest and certain ministers of the church of Clyue. I leave 20s. to be held on my month’s day at Temple (apud Temple) (i.e. the Preceptory near Strood). I leave to the chaplains of Eslyngham 20s. I leave to each bed in every hospital in London 4d. I leave to Dame Rose Rykhull a chest "de Flamidis" and a bed of Tapestry and 5 silver marks. To William Rykhull junior a chest at Temple with iron bands. To John Rykhull a bed "de Blueto" with tester and abaselard. To Thomas Rykhull a chest and 6s. 8d. To Nicholas Rykhull another chest and 6s. 8d. To Matill’ Gylle 20s., Johan wife of Willm Chertseye 20s., Margaret Rykhull at Berkynge 20s., Margaret daughter of Matill’ Gille 20s., Thomas Scotonyle 16s., Johan his wife 16s. To each groom (valetto) of Sir William Rykhull 40d. To each other servant 12d. To the Rector (sic) of Eslyngham 13s. 4d. 
To Doueband junior a bow and my arrows. To Dodeman my sword. To Beatrice Crosseby 20s. To Richard Gille 10 marcs. To Richard Dykes 20s. To John Coupere of Clyue 20s. All silver vessels to my executors which William Rykhull has in his keeping. 
I will that all my lands and tenements which sometime were Thomas Medelane my father’s and Matilda my mother as well in the City and suburbs of London as in the County of Kent in which William Rykhull Knight is enfeoffed to the use of the said Thomas and Matilda his wife remain in the hands of the said William until my debts are paid and my will fulfilled and in meantime my executors to take the profits. I will that all those my lands and tenements which sometime were the said Thomas my father’s in the City and suburbs of London and in Kent after my debts are paid shall be sold by my executors and distributed for my soul except one tenement in Bokeslerisbury which Faucomilee holds which after my debts are paid the said William shall enjoy to him and his heirs for ever. If the said William wishes to purchase my said lands etc then he is to have the choice. I make William Rykhull junior and Willm Chertessye and Thomas Scotevyle Executors. Dated at Eselyngham Friday next after the Lord’s Birth 4th year of King Henry IV. 
Proved 14 January 1402 by executors as named. (Note Scotevyle may be Stotevyle it is impossible to distinguish c from t). (199b Arundel I).
