RICHARD HORSHAM, of the parish of
Vppchirch (Upchurch) in Kent, 9 October 1399. To be buried in the chancel of the
church of Vpchurch. I leave to the sustentation and use of the said church £8.
I will that I have a chaplain to celebrate in the chapel of St. John in the said
church of Upchirch seven years for my soul, my father and specially for the soul
of my mother and all faithful departed. To the Vicar to pray for me 40s. In the
same manner to Sir Nicholas, chaplain there 3s. 4d, and to Thomas my chaplain
3s. 4d. To the parish clerk of the said church 2s, to the Sacristan or ‘le
sextyn’ there 2s. To poor of town of Vpchirch most in need 20d to pray for me.
To Sir Thomas Broke vicar of Hawesto 40s. To the Vicar of Newenton
in Kent 6s. 8d. To Sir John Jourdelay chaplain there 6s. 8d. To the vicar of
Hertlepe 6s. 8d. To Johan Colyn my kinswoman 40s. To Robert Corby and Alice his
wife my sister 10 marcs. To each of my servants called ‘Ploughmen and Carters’
a quarter of barley.
To each of my daughters 100 marcs to their marriages. If they die
then 100 mrcs to be done for my soul and 100 mrcs I leave to Thomas my son. To
the same Thomas 40 mrcs and all my armour. If he die before his full age or
marriage then to be disposed for my soul.
To John Qylard my servant 10s and my gown of "Blewfaldyng".
To Thomas Caleys my servant 13s. 4d and my gown of white "Rosetilineater".
To Alice my wife 100 mrcs. To each executor £20 and each supervisor as my
executors think reasonable. Residue to my executors to dispose for my soul and
the souls above named. Executors: William Sevenok and William Symmes, citizens
of London and supervisors Stephen Betinam and Robert Corby. Dated at London.
