JOHN COBEHAM of Heuere. 23 July 1394. To be buried in the bell-tower of the church of Blessed Peter the Apostle at Heuere. I leave to the fabric (fabrice) of the church of Canterbury 13s. 4d. of the Cathedral Church of Chichester 13s. 4d. To John Costodele rector of the parish church of Heuere 40s. for tithes forgotten. To the high altar of the church of Horstede Keynes 20s., of Westhelegh 6s. 8d., of Chydyngston for tithes forgotten 6s. 8d., of Alfynton next Kyngesbregge in Deuon 5 mrcs. I wish that ten thousand masses immediately after my death may be celebrated for my soul and all faithful departed. I wish that 30 trentals of St. Gregory be celebrated. I leave to 20 poor men to each a tunic with hood one pair of boots of white cloth and a pair of shoes, so that they for 40 days continually after they have received the gifts may pray in the church of Heuere in mass time for my soul devoutly, and have each day bread, ale and 1d. I leave £30 for expenses on the day of my funeral.
To Elizabeth my daughter 200 marcs and half all my silver cups and half of all my chamber (camera) towards her marriage. I leave to Ralph Cobeham my brother 100 marcs. To Ralph Cobeham of Chafford a ‘Mouch’ in which is sculptured a leopard of gold. To John Leukenore a red bed embroidered with a lion with red curtains and £10. To Katherine Leukenore a green bed with ‘Boterflies de opere de Northwych’ and a maser imprinted with the Arms of Tregos. Residue to my executors that they therewith may fully make my Chantry at Heuere with two chaplains or one chaplain if my goods will not extend to two so that divine service may be celebrated in the church there for my soul and the souls of Johanne my wife, Reginald my son, my ancestors and benefactors and all faithful departed as may be deemed best by my executors. 
Executors, Sir Guy de Mone, Bishop of St. Davids, Treasorer of England, Ralph Cobeham of Chafford, Ralph Cobeham of Deuon my brother and William Smyth of Heuere. It is my will that my manor of Heuere Cobham together with all my land in Sondreye shall be sold to carry out and perform my Will. 
Proved 27 November 1399 by Ralph Cobeham of Chafford, Ralph Cobeham of Deuon and William Smyth of Heuere. (165a Arundel I).
Acquittance was granted to the executors of the above John Cobeham ‘scutifier’ viz to Ralf Cobbeham of Deuon, William Smyth of Heure and Sir Guy Mone Bishop of St. Davids on 4 February 1402. (192b Arundel I).
