ANDREW YONGE, provost there, on 26
March 1408 at Wyngham (Wingham) in the provosts house. To be buried in the
principal chancel of the said Cathedral church before my stall there. To each
canon and sacrist and each vicar of the said church at my burial 12d and at my
month’s day each 6d and anniversary to each present 6d. To each priest present
on those days and especially the parish Chaplain there and the Chantry priest to
pray for me each day 4d. To each poor person coming at the day of my funeral jd
and on my month’s day and anniversary ½d. To the sacrist and parish clerk on
those days each day 4d each.
To Matilda Yonge my sister 100s so that she be content for the
debts I owe her. To John Leges my brother and Agnes Yonge my sister each 40s so
that they and Nicholas Bedel husband of the said Agnes be content for all other
matters they can have and chiefly by reason of a written obligation for £20
which they lately made freely when I went beyond seas towards the Court of Rome,
the intention being that they should obtain this from my goods if I died before
returning, because my mother then living was dwelling with the said Nicholas and
if I return the obligation would be of no account and I should owe them
nothing.
To Michael Nokeron, Robert Loges, John Stowr dwelling with Nicholas
Prat and Andrew Frenghamson of John Frengham each a horse with saddle and a bed
with its belongings viz a canvas a matras a blanket a pair of sheets a pillowe
of the best as they may choose one after another in above order. I leave the
said Nicholas Prat 20s, the said Andrew Frenghain my breviary if it should
fortune him to be promoted to Holy Orders, otherwise not. To Thomas Wose my
servant 20s and each other of my servants also my vicar and the parish chaplain
at the time of my death 6s. 8d.
To Sir Nicholas Turald Vicar of Preston to celebrate and pray for
my soul 6s. 8d. To Four Orders of Mendicant Friars each a trental.
To William Notbern and John Howt each 40s if they will take the
burden of executorship, otherwise not. Residue I concede to above Michael
Neketon, Robert Loges and John Stowt and Matilda Yonge my sister and to the
fabrics (fabrice) of the parish churches of Wyngham and Stratfoldsay [Hants]
equally in five parts, four parts to them and one part between the two churches.
Executors: Michael Neketon, Robert Loges, William Nothem and John
Howt. These are written with my own hand. My attendants (familiari) being
witness, specially desired.
Proved 24 April 1413 in the church of Canterbury by Robert Loges
with reserved powers for the others. [167a Arundell II]
