JOHN LYNDEFELD, Archdeacon of Chichester, Dean of the church of the Blessed Mary de Arcubus London, 28 October 1440. To be buried in the church of Saint Gregory, London. I leave to my church of Eard in Kent 10 marcs for a memorial of my person* to be bought by my executors to remain in the said church for evermore. To the chantry of Master Robert Rosemond in the said church of St. Gregory so that each year my soul may be had specially in memory in the anniversary of the said Master Robert Rosemond my mass book, secundo folio "In aliis vero" my silver gilt chalice and my white vestment with all the belongings pertaining to the altar of my oratory existing within my house near Poolyscheyne in the City of London. My executors to find a good chaplain and able to study in the University of Oxford to celebrate diving service for my soul for one year and to have 8 marcs. I leave to Sir Robert Langman, my chaplain at Eard a gown lined with ‘grene mustdevelers’ with a hood of the same. To Master William North a gown with hood. I will my executors ordain 8 torches of wax to burn in my exequies round my body and after my burial I will two remain to serve the high altar of the said church of St. Gregory and two to my church of Eard and two to the church of Lyndfeld and two at the discretion of my executors. I leave to the church of Lyndfeld (Sussex) 4 marcs to buy an ornament there to serve. I will that each of my servants be remunerated according to the discretion of my executors. I leave to the College of Souls at Oxford by the Revd. in Christ Father and Lord and my singular Lord Henry by the Grace of God Archbishop of Canterbury and Primate of all England and Legate of the Apolstolic See founded, my best books of the Civil and Canon Law to the value of £20. Residue to Richard Malt my brother citizen and fishmonger of London to dispose for my soul. I constitute Sir William Gervays rector of the Church of St. Mary de Arcubus and the said Richard Malt my brother, executors. Dated at London. Proved 5 November 1440. (472b Chichele I)
* "persone mee" – he may mean ‘of his rectoriate’.
