To be buried in the chancel of the church of St. Alphege in the City of Canterbury if I happen to die Rector there. To the work (opus) of a window to be made in the north part of the chancel 5 marcs, such a window as that in the new part towards the garden of the Rector aforesaid. To the lights of the said church viz the light of the Holy Cross 11s., of St. Mary 2s. and of St. Alphege 20d. To the reparation of the vestments 3s. 4d. To the light of St. Xtofer 12d. To the nuns of St. Sepulchre Canterbury 3s. 4d. Sisters of St. Laurence 3s. 4d., Sisters of St. James 3s. 4d., Brothers and Sisters of Menespitel, Canterbury 2s. To the common box of the Brothers and Sisters of Herbaldown 3s. 4d. To the common box of the Brothers and Sisters of Northgate, 3s. 4d. To each Order of Friars in Canterbury 3s. 4d.
To each prisoner in the Castle there 4d. and at Westgate 4d. To the poor on the day of my burial 10s. I will that on the day of my funeral there shall be six torches round the bier (feretrum) burning and in the day of my months mind and 13s. 4d. to be given among the poor. I will that there be found four wax candles round the bier the day of my burial and months day each of 2 lb and that a fifth stand upon the bier (feretrum) which the Rector shall have by right of the church and custom of the City and not as a legacy. I will that 13 masses be celebrated in the church of St. Alphege, and placebo and dirige. I will that of the torches one remain in the church of St. Alphege, the 2nd to the church of St. Martin without the walls, 3rd in church of St. Michael, 4th in church of Breden, 5th at the Friars Minors and the 6th at the Friars Preachers.
To each nun of Merkeate (Co. Bedford) where my sister dwells 3s. 4d. To my sister the Prioress there 13s. 4d. To Margaret Louelich nun there a ‘Keuerlich’ with tester viz with knots (nodis) of red upon a ‘ground’ of dark blue (profundo blodio) and a good pair of sheets and a pair of ‘blanketts’. To the work of the house aforesaid and the use of strangers in the said house a painted bed with tester and another great ‘Kouerleth’ filled with little birds (volucribus) called "Northfolke Bedde" with one pair of ‘curteyns’ of the best. I leave to Margaret my kinswoman aforesaid 13s. 4d. for a habit I leave to the reparation of the chancel of the Blessed Mary of Merkeate for one ‘botiris’ outside 20s. if it be not repaired but if it is to the work (opus) of the church. I wish that of the money which the House aforesaid owes me 20s. be expended on the repair of the roof of the church. I wish that the convent there have 6s. 8d. to a pittance for my soul, of Sir Richard Louelich, Isabelle my mother, and all our good doers I wish that one of my vestments viz a green vestment be given to the church of St. Martin without the walls of Canterbury to pray for me. Another vestment of blue "Wursted" with stars of gold I leave to the church of St. Alphege. Item: if the parishioners wish to buy the cope of the same suit I will they have it at a better price than any other by 6s. 8d. and an honest chaplain to celebrate in that church for my soul, and the souls of John Louelich my father Isabelle my mother and Richard Louelich my uncle, chaplain, and the souls of the good doers. I leave to the use of the Convent of Morkeate casket (crateram) of silver with cover of silver ‘chased’ and six silver spoons and I will they always remain there. To a chaplain to celebrate at Merkeate for a year after my death 5 marcs.
I will if it fortune me to die in possession of St. Alphege that all the belongings in tables etc of the interior of my chamber remain to my successor. Item A great ‘deske’ in the hall to remain there for ever whoever may come to pray for my soul. I will that there remain in the said rectory a table with ‘tristells’. a chair and three stools. In the chamber the ‘bedbords’ to remain.
To Master Thomas Moome, Master (prepositus) of the church of the College of Wyngham, 6s. 8d. To the Monastery of St. Radegund 6s. 8d. or a ‘matris’, a pair of sheets or 6s. 8d. and to each Canon there 8d. to pray for me. I will that my sister Prioress of Merkeate have my new mazer gilt, with a gilt foot, for her life and after that Margaret my kinswoman nun there have it for her life and to remain to the House for the use of the Prioress at her table to pray for my soul. To the Prioress of of St. Laurence, Canterbury 6s. 8d.
I make Sir John Chamburleyn and Sir John Gower, vicar of Hakynton, chaplains and Master John Benet, notary public, my executors and as supervisor Master Henry Penwortham. I leave a little volume, a codex, an old folio and a ff forciatum*, a book ‘Sextum cum Clementinum’ in one volume, to the New College of the Lord Archbishop of Canterbury in Oxford called The College of All Souls of the Faithful Departed. Residue to my executors to dispose for my soul. Witnesses: Sir Robert Hunte, rector of St. Martin Cant: Thomas Philpot of St. Alphege Cant: and John Rudham of the same.
