To each stipendiary chaplain continually celebrating 3s. 4d. for my soul. To each of the two parish clerks 3s. 4d. To the works (fabrice) for my sepulchre 5 marcs. A chaplain to celebrate in the said church in the chapel of the Blessed Mary for seven years for my soul and the soul of Johanne late my wife, my parents etc. and to have £7 and to be present in the said church daily at matins, mass, vespers and all other canonical hours as is customary during the said seven years. My anniversary in the same church 20s.
I leave to Katherine my wife all my moveable goods to the value of £641 as well in money as in silver plate and other ‘jocalia’ as she brought to me, of which she shall answer to Elizabeth her daughter for a legacy of Bartholomew Seman father of the said Elizabeth as well in £100 in money as in silver plate to the value of £10.
I leave to Thomas Gibbes my servant 20 marcs. To Richard Franke 20 marcs Edmund Kervile my servant £10. Residue to be distributedfor my soul etc. I make Thomas Aleyn, mercer, Thomas Catteworth, Wm. Symmes, grocers citizens of London and Robert Cawode my executors. Dated at London.
Last Will: My executors shall sell all my lands and tenements called ‘le Barge’ in Bokelersbury in the parish of St. Stephen de Walbrok viz the mansion houses, shops, celars, solars, gardens, entrance ways and easements and of the money I leave to the master and brethren of the church of St. Thomas the Martyr of Acon next London Conduit 100 marcs to pray devoutly for ever for my soul and the soul of Johanne late my wife of my parents and benefactors and all faithful departed and the rest of the money to be disposed for my soul distributing to poor folks houses etc., amending ways and marriage of poor maidens.
My executors shall sell all my lands and tenements with houses, shops, celars, solars, wharf adjacent sometime called Hornerskeye in Tamystrete in the parish of St. Dunstan next the Tower of London and in Mynchonlane and Towrestrete in the said parish and my tenements in the parish of All Saints of Berkingcherche and distribute the money for my soul etc.
I will that my feoffees in all lands and tenements rents and services in Bromlegh and Hese in Kent enfeoff John Aleyn the son of William Aleyn of Bradefeld of and in all the said lands etc., which sometime were William Oteleye my father’s in Bromlegh to the said John Aleyn and his heirs for ever. My other lands etc. in Bromlegh and Hese I wish my executors shall sell to fulfill my testament and dispose for my soul.
I wish my executors to sell all my lands etc in Suffolk to fulfil my will. As for my messuage called Horsham in Kent with divers lands, tenements, rents and services in Vpchurch, Halghsto, Newenton, Reynham, Hartlepe, Wade, Bobbyng and Detlyng in which certain persons are feoffed I will they enfeoff Katherine my wife therein for her life and after her decease my executors shall sell the same and the whole money be distributed partly between the next heirs of Richard Horsham if any are alive and partly in pious uses for the soul of the said Richard Horsham and his ancestors parents and benefactors of us (nostrorum) and all faithful departed. Proved in hospicio Episcopi Dunelm’ prope London ‘coram Domino’ 2 March 1436 and administration granted to Thomas Catworth, the other executors renouncing. (460a Chichele I).
