Richard Sharpe of
Northyam in Sussex, 6th January 1553 (1 Mary "in earthe
of the church of England and Ireland the supreme hed"). To be
buried in the churche of Northyam. To the parson of Ewherst 12d. To Joan
& Bridgett my doughters at their marriages. To Anne Cryour doughter
of Thomas Cryor & Margaret his wiffe my doughter £6.13.4. If she
die then amongst their other doughters. To every of my men & woomen
servants. To my son John one of my gobletts of silver. To Thomas my
sonne my other Goblett & my mazer. To Dorathee, Mary & Joan
Sharpe my sonnes doughters to every 6s 8d. To every childe of Thomas
Cryor & Margarett my dougther 6s 8d, excepte Anne Cryor. To William
Coke 40d. To Mary Holman daughter of Thomas Holman & Agnes Holman my
doughter 6s 8d. To Thomas my sonne all my farme called Tannehouse for
terme of my lease. Residue to my son John whom I make my executor.
Last will: of my lands in Kent & Sussex. To Alice my wife my
tenement & landes excepte my woods in Benynden the which one Henry
Moter nowe occupieth & one pece of lande called the Longfelde to the
same belonging & after her decesse to John my sonne in fee. To John
my sonne three peces I late purchased of one William Turner & John
Hobbarde in Rolvynden & a rent of 16s 8d out of lands of Richard
Busshopp of Hasting in Westfelde. Also all my lands in Sandeherst wch
John Bate thelder & John Bate the younger now holde in ferme. Also
to the said John a rent or annuyte of £6 out of lands late of one
Edwarde Pettite, gent. in Stokebury & Braborn in Kent, he to keep
all my children under the age of 18 yeres. In default then Thomas my
sonne his brother shall shifte with hym in the premisses, and if they
both refuse then my wief if she be living.
To Thomas my sone all my landes etc in Tenterden, Smalhithe & Ebney
& an anuyte
out of all the landes of Richarde Tilden of Ebney, Benynden or
Tenterden. All whiche annuyties be without redemption except one of
William Hoggs of Tenterden which must followe & be according to the
Indentures. I will John Sharpe my sonne his brother shall receive rents
to the use of said Thomas untill he shall come to the age of 22. To the
said Thomas my sonne all my lands called Henxden, Plasshed, Rowlande and
Oldelande in Benynden and Sandherst, which Thomas Cryor nowe occupieth,
he to paye to Alice his mother £4 yerely. To the said Thomas the
reversion after the death of John Sharpe his brother of a tenement &
lands in parishes of Benynden & Sandherst I late boughte of John
Sharpe my brother sometyme one Christofer Ledes and also three other
peces I late purchased of my said brother adjoining to the tenement
called the Jacobbys Towne, Hokemarling, & the twoo Rechez.
Furthermore to John my sonne the reversion after decease of my saide
Brother of all that principal messuage, gardeyn, lands etc whiche my
saide Brother now dwellith in and one Bate now holdtih in the parishes
of Benynden and Sandeherst, I late purchased of the saide John Sharpe my
brother as by fyne & otherwise it shall appear. If John die then to
Thomas my sonne. To the said John the tenement or messuage in Benynden
& Sandeherst I late purchased of John More, gent, & which one
Richard Reade now dwellith in, he to pay to Alice my wief his mother £4
yearly. To Thomas Sharpe my sonne one howse & gardeyn in Northyham
in Sussex the whiche one Wm Shether now dwellith in. Witness: John
Tufton Esquier & William Coke.
