John Twisden of
Newinden, yoman. 11 Augt 1540. To be buryed in the chappell of our
blessid lady called our Lady chauncell in the parishe churche of
Newinden. To Elizabeth my wyfe £20 and my mesuage & all londes
therunto apperteyninge whiche I bought of Richard Babbe late of Benynden
in the parish of Sandherst, the whiche one Stephyn Pypar now holdith in
ferme and I will she shall kepe Anne my doughter unto suche tyme as the
sayd Anne ys able to gett her lyving. To the maryage of Elys my doughter
£20. To Johane my doughter £20 to her maryage & to Elizabeth my
doughter to her maryage £20 & to Amy my dougther £20. I will John
& Henry my sonnes shall suffer Bennet & Cicely my doughters to
receyve £50 the whiche Thomas Thomsett & Bennet his wyf gave &
ordeyned unto me & Katheryn my wife as in certeyn indentures
playnley dothe apere. To the maryage of the sayd Bennet £3 and Cicely
£3.
To reparacons of the church of Newinden there as moste nede ys 10s. To
Agnes Smithe 6s 8d, olde Mother Margaret 2s, Anne Willarde 12d, Thomas
Key my servant 2s, Thomas Parker 12d, Thomas Chudwell one hayfer of my
beste. To eight por householders in Newinden to eche one bushell of
wheate when yt mabye thresshede of newe wheate.
To the helthe of my soule on day of my burying 20s, monethes daye 26s
8d, & yeres mynde 10s. Residue to John & Henry my sonnes &
to be my executors. To Henry my sonne my coppy holde londes in Northyam
by the custome there & John my sonne as muche more of my freehold
londes.
Witnes: Sir William Laurence, curat of Newinden, Edward Leede & John
Hope.
