John Congherst of Haukeherst, 28 Dec. 1516. To be buried wt in the church of Haukeherst. To the high aulters of Haukeherst, Echingham, Saleherst, Sandherst and Saint Alphege in the countie of Canterbury. To the herse light of Haukeherst 12d. To my oute beryng and moneth day 40s. Item I bequeth towarde the beying of a newe pair of organs to the churche of Haukeherst £5. To pouer maidens mariags in the parisshe of Lynton or in other dedes of charite by the discrecion of the churchwardeyns by reason of the testament and gyfte of Water Riche my first wyfs husbonde 40s.
To Brigide my wyfe all my moveables and unmoveables that is to sey all my corne all my catall, my utensiles, in stuffe beying in the parisshe of Haukherst, and all my moveables beyng in the hands of Petyr Levenoth within the parsisshe of -----------. To Brygide my wyfe and Mary my doughter half my instuff in my house wt in the Citie of Caunterbury & other half to Agnes & Margaret my doughters. Residue according to the tenure and effect as is specified in a pair of Identures bitwene my brother George Congherst & me. My wyfe Brigide executrice and Stevyn Cutlate overseer.
This is the last wille of me John Congherst of all my londs & tenements in the Citie of Caunterbury, Echingham, Tyseherst and Saleherst orells where wt in the Shires of Kent and Sussex. I will Sr Wm Fynche Knyght, Roger Sheyswell gentilman & John Duke my feoffees of the manor of Belherst to suffre Brygide my wyfe to have & occupye for terme of hir lyfe & then to Mary my doughter. In defaulte of heire to Agnes my doughter & to Margaret my doughter & then to the heires of George Congherst my brother. I will John Hales, gentilmen & George Rotheram esquier my feoffees in my principall mesuage & 2 tenements in the parish of Saint Alphege in the Citie of Canterbury cause it to be sold & my Lord Prioir of Canterbury to be paide all that is his true dette owying by me.
Provided yf John Fysshe my sonne in lawe will bye the said mesuage and tenements 40s within the price he to have it. Where as I have solde to my brother George Congherst all that my londs & tenements in the parishe of Haukeherst and Sandherst upon the dennys of Congherst and Litell Rysden for the sume of a hundred marcs of the whiche I will that Brygide my wyfe shall pay unto Maister John Bowmer ten pounds to thuse of Mary my doughter if she be then lyvynge.
