Margaret Heansyll,
12 Aug. 1472 (12 Edward IV) To be buried in the church of Hawkherst in
the space (in quadrante) before the rood. I leave to the parish chaplain
of Hawkherst 12d, to Thomas Rowe, clerk 20d, to Robert Burles, clerk,
20d, to Robert Funtyn, clerk, 20d. To the sustentation of the wax
candles before the Blessed Mary in the church of Hawkherst 12d, to those
before the image of Saint Erasmus 2d, before saint Katherine 16d, and
before Saint Christofer and Saint Sithe 8d. The rest of my goods I leave
to John Aissborneham, Esquire & Anne Mounbray my daughter. [Latin]
This is the last will and ordinaunce of me Margaret Heansill of
Hawkherst made 24 Sept 1472. My body to be buried in the church of
Hawkherst in the quadrant a fore the Roode. To the church workes of
Estgrenestede 6s 8d. To the Freres of Loosenham 13s 4d. To the chapell
of Chyltyngton 3s 4d. I will that myne executours ordeyne three stones
of marbill with scriptur and ymagery wherof oun for myn housband
Heansill, another for me and the thirde for my son John Mounbray. To
chirchwerks of Erthynglegh 6s 8d.
All stuf that was my housbands Heansill to be delivered to John Heansyll
my son at his lawfull age, as appearith in a bille wretin by the handes
of Robert Funtener, and in the mean season the stuf to be in ye keping
of Alison Watts. Alle such stuf that was my housbands Mounbray to be
delivered unto Anne my doughter.
A prest to syng in church of Erthynglegh by an hoole yer for my soule
& for the soulez of Thomas and Johanne my fader & moder and for
alle myn auncestors and another prest in the same forme atte Hawkherst
for my soule and for the soule of John Heansill my housbond and for the
soule of John Mounbray my sonne. To the freres of Motynden 20s. Item I
wil yat ther be sette a skotyons of armes of my housband Mounbray in the
glasse wyndowe in the chirch of Est Grynstede on the north side of the
same church.
My lands etc in Erthynglegh & Hethlegh in Sussex. In presence of
John Colepepir knyght, Richard Colepepir squyer, Maister William Pope,
prest, John Roberd of Hawkehurst, Rauf Hoggs and Harry Lucas.
Proved 29 March 1473 and administration granted to Anne Mounbray
executrix. [PCC 8 Wattys]
