Thomas HOLMAN - Will 16 August

Thomas Holman of the
parish of Northyam in Sussex, 16 Aug. 1551. To be buried within the
church of Northyam besides the north dore within the church. At my
buriall for my soule & all christian soules 20s & moneth mynde
& yeres mynde 20s and at eiche 4 busshels of wheate, a barrell of
bere & chese sufficient. To mending high wey between Northyam church
& Newinden brigg 20s.
To Agnes Holman my doughter my fetherbedd in my parlor etc and all such
stuff her mother gave her at her deathe. If she die then to Thomas
Holman my sonne.
To Elizabeth Cheseman my doughter a cowe etc. To George Lamport a heyfer.
To Thomas
Holman my godsonne one of John Holmans sones a bullocke. To Richard
Motyn a heyfer bullock. Richard Batam my servant a heyfer. John Herneden
a heyfere. Walter Morlen a heyfere. Thomas Coke my servaunt a heyfer.
Richard Baker my godsonne and servaunt a heyfer. James Brayfords sonne
my godson a bullocke. Marion my serv’t one bulocke. Elizabeth Lewcy my
servaunt do. Olyver Hill my s’vant a bullock.
To John Holman my sonne 4 oxen, wherof he hath two allredye & the
other two to be my oxen caled Herse & Browne (also other horses
& cattle) and all my hey lying at Gotely at the south side of
Northyam and also my ferme & lease of a tenement called Goteley
& my two marshes in Rye.
If he die then to Thomas my son.
To Thomas Cheseman of Ewhurst all the farme called Hoocham where he nowe
dwellith. If Elizabeth Cheseman my doughter & nowe the wife of the
said Thomas die then to Thomas my son.
To Thomas my sone my farme landes in Ewherst called Lording strete
whiche I occupie now in my handes and my farme & lands calle
Gatecorte the whiche I nowe dwell in and occupie & whiche I have the
lease of my Lord Wyndsore. To William Shether one wenyar at Ester. To
John Holman the yonger, sonne of John Holman my sonne a cowe.
Residue to Thomas Holman my sonne & executor. John Sharpp of
Northiam my overseer.
Last will: I give to John Homan my sonne my mesuage & lands at
Mygrams hill in the parish of Sandherst in Kent the whiche one Bryngker
now dwellith in & occupieth.
To Thomas Holman my sonn all my lands in the said parish of Sandherst
whiche I bought of Beching & Shott, except the litle tenement and 2
garden plotts and one feld in Sandherst the which one old Mokett now
holdeth to have to hym & his heires for ever.
To Thomas Holman my sonne my lands & garden with a lodge there upon
bylded in Northiham called Clopton which I bought of William Lawles.
To Agnes Holman my doughter one litle tenement, 2 garden plottes &
one feld above said which old Moke nowe holdeth (This seems contrary to
above bequest which may mean that Moket was to have it for life only).
Witness: John Sharpp, Robert Walmersley clerk, George Pyper, Richard
Moket & James Braynforde.
