Robert Edolff of the
Parish of Brensett in Romney Mershe being seeke etc 26 Nov 1549 (3 Edw
VI). To be buryed within the chauncell in the churche of Brensett
comonly called Or Lady Chauncell. I will at my out bearing unto preestis
& clerks to singe suche service as is appointed & set furthe by
the Kinges Maiestie & his Counsaill according to the tyme 10s. To
everye poore body being a housholder straunger & other of the said
parrishe, a loafe of breade one pece of beef & 2d of money &
under the age of 12 yeres & no housholder 2d of money. Also at my
mounethes mynde & at my yeres mynde.
Unto Margarete my wif 100 marcs & all her ringes & jewelles
& the comodetie of my chamber wt free going in & out wt meate
& drincke for so longe tyme as she liketh, my bed, a new chest &
half a garnishe of the best vessel, one gilted goblet & one new
gilted salt, my best bay gelding with a donne geldinge wt her sadill
& bridill & harnes, four of my best kyne & 20 of my best
ewes wt their lambes being at home. To John Asheherst my wifes Father my
blacke gelding that is unhandled. To my wifes mother my blacke gelding
whiche she comonlie used to ryde on. To everye of my wifes susters
20s.
To Thomas Cooper & Wm Cooper 40s. Unto the two sonnes of Thomas
Yeldishe 10s. To Philipp my daughter £40 on condicon viz whereas Edward
Honny husband of & unto the said Philipp my daughter promised her a
good estate in the law in fee simple of & in all & singular his
landes in the marshe called Wallande, if he parfourme his fathefull
promise then the said £40 to be paied but not otherwise. To John
Idenden of Mersam one cowe & a calf at Saint George next coming. To
Sr Thomas Cannon 20s. To every of my men servantes & boyes 6s 8d at
my mounethis day.
To William Whitewood my locker [looker] one cowe & a balde gelding
which he comonly usith to ryde on. To Alice Tiseherst & Elizabeth
Bate 10s. Unto my father Asheherst my best gowne. Roger Pelland my best
coote. Alice Ashehurst my servaunt 6s 8d. Robert Edolph my sonne all my
housholde not bequeathed, all my fewell wood, all the brewing vessilles
paying £20 to Symon Edolph my sonne. My daughter the wedowe of Thomas
Fowle 40s. John Mackestede 6s 8d. Robert Edolf my sonne 12 of my best
spones, my best pece of silver, one potte of silver, my worst salte
& one maser. To William Tokyes children 10s.
To Margaret my saide wif & either of my daughters twoo spoones off
silver & my wif to take the choise. To John Edolf my sonne 100 of my
best ewes & 100 of my best lambes choise in & amongst all my
flocke, to be dilivered at Michaelmas next comying. John Edolf my sonne
shalhave to his onely use the lease of the Greate Bickerd, Little
Beckard & Cokerd Mershe during the terme of yeres except 30 acres
whiche Edward Honny hathe.
To reparation of the churche of Brensett 40s. To the poore mens box 6s
8d. To Robert & Symond my sones the lease of Elderstones Mershe. To
Bennett Wibley 6s 8d. To Raphael Brightes wif 6s 8d. I will Robert Edolf
shall pay unto John Edolf my sonne £15 for a rewarde out of a pece of
lande I bought of Sr Thomas Kempe, knight, of 16 acres. Residue to
Robert Edolf & Simon Edolf my twoo sonnes & executors & John
Edolf my sonne overseer.
Last will of my landes & tenements. To Philipp my daughter all my
landes in Wallande called Courties, Epses, Tildens & Mardens. To
Robert Edolf my sonne my woodlands in Ruckinge called Morland of 40
acres. To Symon Edolfe my sonne 40 acres of woodlande called Pyrland
& the wood thereof. To John Edolfe my sonne 12 acres of lande called
Hogges wt all the wood now felled upon the same & 6 acres of
woodlande sometyme Durbans & 3 acres of woodland lying at Hamme
& 3 acres called Old Gardeyn. To Robert Edolf my sonne a tenement
& 52 acres in the parishes of Brensett & Brokeland paying unto
Margaret my wif 53s 4d by the yere. To Symon Edolph my sonne 48 acres in
the parish of Ivichurch in occupacon of Wm Whitehedde & Raaf Bright,
paying Margaret my wif 46s 8d by the yere. To Robert my sonne all suche
landes as I latelie bought of Sr Thomas Kempe. To John Edolf my sonne a
house standing nye unto the churche yard of Brenset comonly called the
new vicaredge. Witness: John Asheherste, John Cooper, Thomas Chapman,
vicar, Leonard Whitewood & Rauf Bright.
