John Cockes, clerke,
vicar of the parish church of Islington in Myddlesex. 14 April 1545. To
be buried in the chancell at Iseldon (sic) aforesaid. Executors: Thomas
Argall, Register to my Lorde of Cantorburye & Master Wm Cooke Doctor
of the Civill Lawe, nowe one of the advocates of the Courte of
Canterburye. To poore of Oure Ladye at the bowe in London, of Iseldon,
aforesaide, of Charinge & of the chapell of Egerton in Kent, of
Christen Malforde in Wiltshire £5, to every of them 20s, and as
towehinge Medley in Rumney Marshe whereas I suppose no poore housholder
but one the whiche nowe dwellith rente free in the parsonage yet I will
that after my executors discrecion theire be distributed 6s 8d. To every
one of the saide churches & also to the chapell of Egerton one paire
of vestments wt thapparrell of the price of 40s. To the parish church of
Westotbarton in Oxon where I receynid the holly sacrament of baptisme
& where also my father & mother be buried a vestment price 40s.
To Doctor Incent, Deane of Paules a ringe of golde of the five woundes
which I was accostomed to were.
To my poore kinsfolk of my Kynne dwelling in Oxfordeshire £6.13.4. An
obit at All Soule Collegge in Oxon. Justinian Cocks, my brothers sonne
40s. Eme Cockes my kinswoman £10. Sir John Baker, Knyght one of the
Kings most honourable Counsayle to have the preferment of the lease of
my house wherein I dwell wt the gardens & also the gardens that Mrs
Barker, wydowe, of the Rose Tavarne occupieth etc etc. [no further Kent
reference]
