William Knechebull of
the parishe of Mydle, 20th October 1522. To be buried in the
church of Saint John the Baptist of Mersham by my Fader & frendis
there. An honest prest to rede & syng three masses and another in
the church of Midle for 2 yeres. To high altar of Midle 20s & to
reparacon of said church 40s. To high aulter of parish of Brokeland 3s.
4. To reparacon of the spytill (?error for Stepill) of Aldyngton 20s (it
was then building). To high aulter of the church of Hurst 6s 8d.
Matild my wife 200 marcs, 10 keen, a bull a ween, yoked & 10 buddis
& 10 calves, half of my houshold, an ambilying horse or gildyng to
Ryde on, 20 seames of whete & 40 seames of barley. If she be with
child it shall have £100 at 24 or at his mariage & be sett to scole
& honestly founde but he shall not clayme noon of the landes that
were yeven to my sons John & Thomas his brethern by the last will of
my Fader. If a mayden then she to be honestly kept etc. To Sibill my
doughter to her mariage 40 marcs.
To John Assheley £20, Nicholas Hawke £5 & he to doo for my sonne
Thomas Knechebull as my trust is in hym. To Wm Abeer £3, Richard Hegyer
alias Richard Bruer 20d every yere for 10 yeres. To Nychas Hawke, John
Watson, John Smythe, moder Inglott, Bakers wif, Yongs wif, Yealdishe
widow & Johan Mihells yche of theym 13s 4d. Robert Garrard 26s 8d.
To the hye waye ayenst my faders landis called Godards Lands 20 marcs.
My sonne Thomas shall abyde & dwell with Richard Halle til he be
married & he shall have 20 nobles for kepyng my said sonne, the
which Rychard Halle shall goo & Ride wt my said sonne Thomas to help
hym shifte half lyke of all my moveables & fermes payinhg lyke
charges concerning this my testament & also my Faders will &
testament as my sonne John shall doo in everything. Residue to John
& Thomas Knechebull my sonnes & executors. Overseers: Richard
Halle, Richard Lott & George Bachelor.
Witnesses: Wm Blackborne, clerke, Thos Henbon, John Aysley, Nichas
Hawke, Robt Garrard, John Fonten, John Knechebull, Richard Edward &
other.
