Robert Hereford,
Bachelor of Laws, Rector of the Parish Church of Newchurch in Romney
Merssh. 19 Dec 1463. To be buried in the monument prepared in the
monastery of the Blessed Mary of Boxle in the chapell of St Martin
"in ecclesia superiori" there where I was wont to celebrate,
with a marble stone with epitaph inscribed to the honor of God & the
glory of the place. (Gifts to Abbot & monks & priests to
celebrate for him etc). If I die after feast of Annunciation BVM then
fruits of tithes shall go to reparation of chancel & "my
rectory house" & remainder to works of the Nave [apparently of
Newchurch].
To John Hertford, monk, my green mattras. To Dom. Thomas Burbage, monk,
my girdle of black silk harnessed with silver etc. To Dom. Richard
Fawrford, Rector of Assh my gown with its hood. I leave to the Carmelite
Friars of Aylesford 13s 4d to celebrate for me. To Dom. John Aylesford,
monk, 6s 8d.
To Robert Crouchman my boy 20 marcs of the farm of my Rectory in the
hands of Thomas Crouchman my farmer according to the form of the
indenture & also my Psalter "ympnisatum" "meum parvum
librum cum malulinis de advente "placebo et dirige" six silver
spoons & my bed. I leave Gervase "Pincerene Abbathie"
aforesaid "meum novum palect prikked". I leave Margaret Bere
40s. To Joan Dodd 20s, sheets, bed etc. Residue for health of my soul.
Executors Dom. Richard Fayrefeld, Walter Manby & Thomas Croucheman.
