July 1449. To be buried in cristen buriel. Five nobles to pour people
every of them to sey 5 paters & 5 ave & one crede in the wurshyp
of ye 5 wounds for my fadre & modre my mistres & cosyns Sr
Waulter & Robert Shyryngton & al my good doers. Dirige in the
parish church of Mafeld in Sussex vs for myn tythes & in the
same wise to seynt Frythis & Seynt Batholomew at London. Myn obite
at my parysh church of Mafeld. Bequests by ye testament of myn cosyn
Robert Shiryngton nat yet executed. Two prests to syng for my lord of
Glowcester soule, Walter & Robert Shiryngton soule etc. The church
of Pesemersh £20. Agnes my wyfe. Richard my son & Alice my doughter.
Lands in London, Middlesex, Kent, Surrey & Sussex.
(English) Last will: 5 September 28 Henry VI. Lands in Woxbrugge &
Chesewik in Co Middx; Craneley & Shire in Surrey; & Pevensey in
Sussex. First I will my feoffees of manors, lands etc "in marisco
de Romeney et alibi in dicto comitatu Kancie" after my death sell
or cause to be sold for the finding of two chaplains in the Cathedral
Church of St Paul in London or in the conventual church of St
Bartholomew in West Smythfeld for the soul of Walter Shiryngton, clerk,
to celebrate mass for ever, according to the orders of my executors. [No
further Kent references.] [Latin]
Proved 15 October 1449 by William Bally & Thomas Anewell, executors.
Note: This was the Chantry in St Pauls known as Sheringtons. Morghew in
Tenterden was part of this endowment. [PCC 18 Rous]
