RYCHARD HAROLDE of the
parishe of Stapleherste in Kente, Tailor. To be buried in the church
yarde of Staplehurste. To be bestowed in ornaments for the churche of
Stapleherst 6s. 8d. Emonge ministers of the churche and preists and
clerks to praye for my sowle 10s. At my burial 20s. emonge poore people
that shall resorte to the churche to praye 20s. in breade and drynke
emonge suche poore people. At the monneth daie 10s. and 20s. in breade
and dryncke.
Item that euery person whose names be written in a bill subscribed with
the hande of Thomas Henden parson, James Awsten and John Rumney receave
and take euery of theym 12d. To Richard Todiam the cloath for a coate
which Thomas Battersey oweth to me whiche if he refuse to paye I will
myne executors shall disherite and putt hym oute of the lande at the
feaste of Saint Michaell next. I will the saied Richard Todiam have his
dwellinge free in the house that Clement Gibberishe nowe dwellith in for
12 yeres, kepinge reparacons and painge the Lordes rent and not els, and
if the said Richard dye I will my said daughter Johan have her dwelling
there terme of her lief.
To my doughter Emme £20 at her mariage or age of 20. If she die then
betwene my two sonnes John and Richard.
Where I have made a deade of gifte to Johan my wife for her assurance of
her dower of £4. 10. 4., the same to come out of my lands and tenements
[with entry in default].
I will the said Johan have and inhabit my house I nowe dwell in
Stapleherst together with a garden and a crofte of lande lieing to it,
she to keep reparahouse and pay the lorde his rente.
I will she shall have the gouernance and keaping of my three children
John, Richard and Emme till they come to age of thirtene yeres and for
her labour and maynteyninge of either of theire chardges 53s. 4d. or £8
in the whole by the yere. My said wife Johan to maynteyne and keape my
saied two sonnes to schole till they can perfectlie write and reade.
To Alice Hanvylde 26s. 8d. To Margaret Hanvylde 13s. 4d. To Annys Gennet
6s. 8d. For the mayntening of the apparraile of my saied three children
20s. yerely. To John Crosbye my seruaunte 13s. 4d.
To the sonnes of James Awsten which he had by my daughter, Percyvall,
Thomas and Richard to either 13s. 4d. To Johan Austen daughter of James
Awsten whiche he had by my doughter Godlye 6s. 8d. To Henry Todiam the
sonne of Richard Todyam which he had by my daughter Johan 20s. If he die
his mother to have the same.
To Jeffrey my seruaunte 13s. 4d., so that he helpe myne executors to
gather my mony whiche is my shoppe booke. To Alice Becke my seruaunt 6s.
8d.
I will my two sonnes John and Richard be set to some honest occupacon
when they come to the age of 13 yeres.
My daughter Emme shalbe put to some honest woman to learne to sowe silke
worke.
To William Gemete my wifes sonne 6s. 8d. To Leonard Sely my seconde
coate. To my wief my geldinge and my beste gowne all my fyer wood, ready
made, she painge for the cariage, reserving foure loades to Shedwaters
widowe.
Executors: Robert Draner and Mighell Draner. Overseer James Awsten.
Last will: of my lands and tenements. My executors to receive profits
till my two sons come to age. If they die then to Emme my doughter and
if she die then to my next heirs. James Awsten to have the keaping of
threscore pounds unto the time my two sonnes shalbe of thage of 22 and
to deliver £20 to Emme at her mariage and for assurance of the same I
will he put in and bynde the lande whiche Robert Bronger inhabiteth. Per
