WILLIAM STRANTON, of the parish eof Stapylherst 4 Novmebre 1529. To be buried in the parish chirchyarde of All Saints at Stapylherst. To the high awter 6s. 8d. To the high awter (sic) of our lady 12d. To the light of Saint Kateryn 12d, of Saint Xpofer 12d. To the making of oon new couer to the fonte within the churche of Stapylherst foure pounds sterling to be made within oon yere next after my deceas. A preest to celebrate by oon half yere and he to have for his salary and wagis £3. 6. 8. To pour people at my owtbering and moneth day peny dole to euery pour man, woman and childre. Oon yerely obite of 6s. 8d. by yere wt in the parishe church of Stapylherst during the space fo tenne yeres.
To John Nyxson 6s. 8d., Thomas Hayes 6s. 8d.
Vnto Elizabeth my wife half my houshold stuffe, all the wolle wt in my house, all my wode, madder and alom whersoever it be, also the money to hir that is in Gayladyes hande, all my siluer spones and my maser and £20 sterling. And the said Elizabeth at hir propre costes and charges to see my two yonge sonnes sett to scole vntill they can write and rede. To the said Elizabeth my baye mare, foure of the best of my kene and the said kene to be kept as well wynter as somer at the profre costs and charges of myn executour. Also to her almaner of fewell to hir brought home during her widowhod.
Vnto Margaret my doughter at hir mariage or at 22 yeres, £20.
Other half of my houshole egally amonge my thre sonnes. To William Stranton my sone as he doth attayne his age of 22 yeres £40. To Thomas my sonne £40. If they die there shalbe bestowed at their owt bering and moneth day in the quere and to other dedes of charite £6. 13. 4. and rest to John my sonne. To euery of my godchildren 12d.
Vnto Elizabeth Hopper my seruaunt 20s. I forgeve Thomas Hopper all the dett that he oweth me. To Sir Richard Woodcok my goostly father 6s. 8d. To euery of my feoffees 6s. 8d. Vnto William Leke 40s. if he will dwell with my sonne John vntill his age of 20 yeres, if not only 20s. Vnto John Frankelyn gent. to ayde and socour my sonne in executrix of this my last will and testament [blank]. Residue to John my sonne and executor.
Witnesse Sr. Robert Wodcok curat, Parcyvall Aster, John Osbarn, John Nyxson, John Meryell with other moo.
Last will: My feoffees John Frankelyn gent, Thomas Scott gentilman, John Stranton and John Meryell shall suffre Elizabeth my wife to have hir dwelling in my house that I nowe dwell in during her widowhod and in my werkhouse, and she shall have all her natural lyfe fyve pounds half yerely to be paid and in default to distresse and streyn in Johus parte. And after hir widowhod the said Elizabeth shall have to all the time of hir lyfe the yerely issues and profits of all the the houses late purchased of thexecutours of Sir Richard Lockinge and then asone as the said Elizabeth shall happen to be maried she to forgoo the comodities and profits of the keping of hir kene and of the said fewell occupying of the werkhouse and also from the dwelling house in the house that I nowe dwell in.
Vnto John my sonne the house I nowe dwell in with all the landes adioynyng, all the house I late purchased of John Westell, oon pece of londe called Rayffeld and other called Birdscrofte, all the landes lates purchased of Jervyns, all the landes lying at Putlands corner, all my other londes lying bitwixt Putlands corner and Wyldyngs hedge and other londs called Toms felds, his moders dwelling alwey except and reserved. If he deccease wt out issue the said londes to remayn to his brothers &e brother. Also the said John to take profits of my other londs vnto my sonnes come to the age of 20, and at the age of 20 I wille vnto William my sonne my mesuage that Richard Benett occupieth with all londs belonging. Vnto Thomas my sonne at 20 all house late purchased of Sir Richard Lockeyngs executours, his mothers terme alwey except and reserved. Also my mesuage at Fretynden with all londes belonging, the mesuage lying at Trustyn hale after the maner and custome of Trystyn hale.
Vnto Elizabeth my wife the house that Symon Hopper nowe dwellith in to hir and her heires after the custume of the said lesse.
Provided alwey that my feoffees shall suffre euery of my sonnes to make a joynter to a woman after the custume of the Cuntree.
I will all londes late purchased of Richard Wande shall remayne to all my sonnes joynteley.
I will that Parcyvall Asten shalhave oon mesuage the which I late purchased of William Hopper of Maydestone, he paying £11 str. at the state deliveree.
If all my sonnes die then Margaret my doughter shalhave all the houses late purchased of executors of Sir Richard Lockyng hur mothers dowrye reserved, and rest to be sold and of the mony vnto Margaret my doughter £4. To noyous wayes bitwene Byrdshern crosse and Stapylherst hill £10. To the bying of oon newe Antyffener to the church fo Stapylherst £10, and if there be any money left the rest to the amending of the books wt in the said church. To the gildyng of the Rodlofte of Stapleherst £40. To oon honest preest to celebrate to rede and synge wt in the churche by the space of 20 yeres and euery yere for his wagis £6. 13. 4. To the Rode, Mary and John within the church of Stapylherst £4.
My executor shall discharge John Nyxson ageynst Stevyn Colyer for any dett that I owe vnto the said John Nyxson.
