RICHARD HAMON of Benenden
in Kent, 18 October 1551. My Bodie to erthe. At my burying
40s. To an honest substanciall lerned man to preache one sermond of
Goddes true holly worde 3s. 4d., and when the sermon ys done and all
finished to be bestowed and given 26s. 8d. At my monethes daye fowre
marks in like manner.
Vnto the Cawseway betwene my howse and the crosse in Beddenden Strete
40s.
To Isabell my wief 40s. of redy money, 3 of my best kyne with all the
butter and cheise that then shalbe in my house and all suche bakon as
then shalbe in my howse, all the faggots woode abowte my howse wt 20
loode of workehowse wood to her spending, all the pewltrie then being
about my howse, 12 silver spones the
which she brought vnto me at our mariage.
My household to be devided in two parts my wief Isabel one part and
theother parte in pyve parts for my fyve doughters and also to lay euery
parte one silver spone and then by lotte to lett eueryone of them to
have her parte. This is to Johan my doughter nowe the wief of Simon Daye,
the nexte part to Margaret Hamon my doughter, the thirde to Julyan my
doughter, the fourthe to Ellyn Hamon my doughter, the fifte parte to
Agnes hamon my doughter.
My wief to have the keping of Ellyn and Agnes Hamon parts till they be
of thage of 20 yeres or marriage.
My executors to make sale of all my moveables reserving the implements
of on workehowse that is a Fatte, Tounes and Coper with Hardells and
Taynte and to bring it to redy money.
To my sister Wood 20s. and to euery child of my sister Woode 3s. 4d.
To Edward Hamon my brothers sonne 20s. To Robege Plotte to be delivered
to William Heneger of Ragnam for thuse of same Robege £6. 13. 4. To
Marion Plotte £6. 13. 4. (as before). To euery of my maide servants 5s.
To Richard Stedman 10s. To euery of my prentizes 3s. 4d.
Executors: Thomas Stace and John Moise and John Fleete to be ouerseer.
To my doughter Margaret Hamon £40. My executors to purchase free landes
and she to have profitt till she be 21.
To Julyan Hamon my doughter £40 with which lands to be bought to her
use. Same to Ellyn Hamon my doughter and John Flete godfather vnto the
said Ellyn Hamon to receive the £40 if executors do not act. For Agnes
Hamon my doughter £40 (to be similarly invested) and John Hamon my
brother and godfather to said Agnes to see that executors act.
My will is that my detts and bequests paid my executors with overplus of
my said stocke purchase as muche free landes as the overplus of my
stocke will bye that the rent of the same landes yerely for the space of
20 yeres remayne to comfort of the poore that ys thone half of same rent
by myn executors and by the two churchwardens of the parishe of Bedenden
being ever present to distribute hit amongest the poverty of the parishe
of Bedenden where as most nede ys at the stone of John Lachynden in the
church yarde half yerely euery yere to be done and thother half of the
rent of the same lands I will myn executors shall make
payment into the handes of the bailye of Tenterden then being half
yerely and the same baylie wt the two churche wardens half yerely to
distribute the same amongest the povertie within the parishe of
Tenterden to thende of Twentie yeres. I will after the twentie yeres
ended this same landes ymmediately do remayne to the doughters or
doughters of me the forsaid Richard Hamon.
Last will: To Isabell my wife 20 marks out of my lands and myne
executors shall lette to farme all my landes and at euery quarter myne
executors with my wief being ther present yf she be hable and before the
Curate of the same parishe then being shall at the Stone of olde Mr.
Mayne in the chauncell distribute firste thone half of the same amongst
the povertie of the parishe of Bendenden for Christs sake during the lyf
of the said Isabell and the other half my executors do make payment and
delivery of the same into thandes of the bile of Tenterden and the two
churchwardens then there being and they to distribute hif amongest the
provertie of the same parishe during the lief of Isabell my wief. And
after the decease of said Isabell my principal mesuage two gardens with
a
dyehouse and all implements with seven pecs of lande belonging to the
same of 13 acres vpon the denne of Standen and 2 peces called Maglands
vpon the same denne and do the adjoine along a grene cauled Sanden Grene
conteyning 5 acres shall remain vnto Julyan Hamon my doughter for euer,
she paying to Ellyn Hamon her syster £30 and to Agnes Hamon her sister
£10.
To Ellyn Hamon my doughter fyve pecs of grounde wt a litle howse and a
garden lying at Spildherste Hill conteyning 19 acres with an other
garden lying vppon the denne cauled Brokyndenn garden.
To Agnes my doughter fyve peces of lande at Hartyshepe the which I
bought of Fyshcocke conteyning 24 acres.
To Margaret Hamon my doughter my howse at Standen and the landes on the
backeside, fyve pecs and 2 gardens and 2 pecs of land at Bedilsden Hill
conteyning 18 acres to her ther heirs after decease of Isabell my wief.
Witness: Sir George Ayden, curate, John Flete, Richard Stedman and
Stephen Porter.
