JOHN RICARDE of Byddynden
[Biddenden], 18 July 1551. To be buried in the earthe where yt shall
please god.
To Elizabeth my wief £100, my household stuff, 12 silver spones and 3
of my best kyne three calvys and my second best gelding, three acres of
whete, three quarters of brown blue yerne and on remenante of clothe of
two yards and a half.
To Katheryn Ricarde my doughter £100 my executrice to buy landes
therewith and to take profits until Katherine be 20 or tyme of her
mariage. In defaulte to my sonne John Ricard when 21 and my wief to have
the keping of the said John till he be 14 yeres, she to kepe him in
meate and drynke and clothes and also put hym to scole and when he is 14
my executor shall put hym to suche honest occupacion as he ys willinge
and most apte to lerne.
To Richard Ricarde my brother £20 and whereas I bought of him land
called Myllars Lande he to perform all the obligations not yet done.
To Jone Ricarde doughter to the Richard Ricarde 20s. and to euery of his
other children 3s. 4d. To Alice Ricarde my goddoughter, doughter of
Stevyn Ricarde my brother 4s. at her marriage. To Elizabeth Frenche my
servant £3. 6. 8. at her mariage or at 21. To Maryon Frenshe and Jone
Frenshe susters to said Elizabeth 20s. at 21 or mariage. To John Frenshe
and William Frenshe 6s. 8d. To Margaret Pellond my ?sister 33s.
4d. at mariage or 21. To my syster Nowre 6s. 8d. To Margaret Nowre my
goddoughter 20s. To residue of my sister Nowers children 3s. 4d. To
Stephen Ricarde my brother 40s. To John Ricarde his sonne 40s. and
residue of his children 3s. 4d. To my syster Flete 6s. 8d. and to Alice
Flete 10s. and euery of the residue of the children of John Flete 3s 4d.
To my sister Padyham 6s. 8d. and to my sister Clerke 6s. 8d. To my
sister Wilcok 6s. 8d. and to euery of her children 3s. 4d.
To euery of my three prentizes 6s. 8d. To either of my mayden servants
3s. 4d. To Stevyn Porter my servant 20s.
Resydue to John Ricarde my sonne.
Executors to sell all residue and purchase a bye asmoche landes or
yerely rent to the vse of my saide sonne John Ricarde. If he die before
21 then to Katheryn my doughter. If they both die then all to be sold
and bestowed to Elizabeth my wief £40. £20 to making of foule weyes
within the parishe of Byddynden. £20 to the children of my brother
Stephyn Ricarde then living. £10 to poore people in Byddenden and three
parishes next Byddynden. £20 to the children of my brother Nowre. £10
to Marion Frenshe, Elizabeth Frenshe and Jone Frenshe and residue to my
next heyres.
Executors John Flete my brother and Richard Hamon. Witnes Richard Alcok
and Thomas Aston of Tenterden.
Last will: Elizabeth my wief my messuage in the occupying of Symon
Hughwood in the parish of Byddenden and my messuage I nowe dwell in
Byddynden and my house and lands called Alysaunders for eight yeres
nexte. Then to my sonne John Ricarde and if he die to Katheryn Ricarde
my doughter and in default to John Ricarde sonne of Stephen Ricarde my
brother, he to pay to Styven R. his brother £20. To John Ricarde my
sonne all my woodlands in Tenterden and residue to the next heyres of me
the saide John Ricard thelder.
