STEPHYN HALSENOTH of
Byddynden [Biddenden] laste daye of Aprill 2 Edward VI. To be buried in
churcheyarde of Biddynden. To poore people vppon the daie of my
sepulture 13s. 4d. and vpon my monethes daye 13s. 4d.
To Elizabeth my wife all my houshold and two of my beste Kyne and 5 of
my shepe and the haulf parte of all my corne both wt in and wt oute and
£8.
To John Stace and Alice his wyfe £4, he to observe all suche promisses
as he made vnto me that where that if I the saide Stephen did make Alice
my doughter worth vnto hym £20 in money or monyworth then he the saide
John Stace for to make vnto the saide Alice his wyfe a lawfull estate in
his house and landes of 40s. yerely rent for her lyf.
To James Hampton £8 on condicon that Christofer Hampton farther vnto
the said James do parforme a promisse he made vnto me Stephen Halsenoth
that is to saye to ensure and make vnto the said James Hampton and
Elsabeth his wyfe which is the daughter of me Stephen Halsenoth after
the death of the said Christofer Hampton an good estate in one messuage
and garden in Byddynden Strete which the said Christofer dwellith in to
be hadde vnto the vse of the saide James Hampton and Elizabeth his wyfe.
To Thomasyn Halsenoth my doughter £20 on her mariage or at 22, and in
defaulte (by her death) to her sisters
Alice Stace and Elizabeth Hampton.
Twenty lodes of stone to the cawsewaye betwene Standen and Biddynden
Strete.
To William Cutebushe one heffer. To John Halsenoth one heffer. To Walter
Halsenoth my sonne 5 shepe.
To Elsabeth Rose 40s. at mariage or 20. To Stephyn Roose 26s. 8d. To
Johan Francham my goddoughter 5s. To Stephen Richard my godsonne a lambe.
To my brother Salmon 2 yards of clothe for a cote. To Geffrey Halsenoth
one budde and a lambe.
Residue to Martin Halsenoth my sonne and executor.
Witness: Stephen Richard, Richard Hamon and Robert Rebest.
This ys the last will: 20 Aprill 2 Edward VI of my landes &e. in
Byddynden. To Marten Halsenoth my sone my mesuage I nowe dwell in wt 2
gardens and to peces of lande adjoyning wt the workehouse and all the
implements and comodityes thre vnto belonging and 3 other peces of lande
called Padyamsland which I bought of Mr. Mayne and all my lease landes
which doth adjoyne to my workehouse feld, reserving to Elsabeth my wife
so longe as she doth contynne wydowe her dwelling rome in the parlour
with the chamber adjoyning to the south ende of the house wt the chymney
loft there over the which ys nowe theyr geasten chamber and an honest
rome for to leyer her woode and to have rome bothe to cum and to goo
into the premisses to bake and to brewe washe and to wrynge and to do
all such necessaries as belongith to a woman to do. Also the keping of
two kyne and also 40s. yerely.
Also the said Marten my sonne to pay to Walter his brother £20 at 22
(with power of distraint on the lands bought of Mr. John Mayne).
To Walter my son all my parte of my landes at Sharpynton that lyeth to
shyft betwixte Mr. Drayner and me and one felde caulled rede Petfeld the
which the said Mr. Drayner hath no parte therin lying unto Spichlane at
my landes at Berunden and Lachinden at the age of 22 yers.
