STEPHEN FRENSCHE of Bidynden [Biddenden], 16th December 1508. To be buried in the churchyerd of All Saints of Bydynden. To light of the crucifix 4d. To light of or. lady 4d. To light of Seynt Xpofer 2s. To light of Seynt Kateryn 2d. To the moost behove of the church of Bydynden vs.
To the making of the newe roode loft of Smerden 6s. 8d.
To mendyng of a foot wey betwene my house and Speldherst lake 13s. 4d.
To the beying of a newe vestment to thonor of God in the church of Bydynden 5 mrc., soo that the said vestment be bought at the seid fest of Ester next comyng.
To Elizabeth Mount my seruant if she abide wt. my wife to the fest of the Annunciacion of Our Lady 5 marks. To Henry William if he abide wt my wif tot he fest of Seynt Mighell tharchangel next comyng 26s. 8d. To William Hemunde a budde. Residue to Kateryn my wife and Thomas Frensche my broder, executor.
Witness: Sr. William Stamell, clerk, Stephen Scott, Edmunde Parker and other.
Last Will: My londs and tenements wt in the parisshe of Bydynden in the which John Frenche, Robert Burden, Robert Swysch and Richard Edynden be enfoeffed. My wif Kateryn to occupie my house wt 25 acres of ynlond therto belongyng if she kepe hir wydowe, wt my werkehouse, shoppe and all instruments thereto belongyng to John my son cometh to thage of 24.
To Thomas my son my new gardyn and all myn outhe lands in nowmbr 22 acris of lond and £30 in money when 24 yeres.
£50 of money to bury londs for Richard my son when 24.
My stuff to be devided amongst my three doughters: Agnes, Johanne and Elizabeth when they be maried orells afore.
I will Kateryn my wif shalhave as before reheresed if she doo kepe my children and hers well and honestly as children owethe to be kepte to they be able to kepe theymself.
If sons die then to the beying of a booke callid an Antiphonear to the church of Bydynden. Also to reparacon of the Cawseywey betwene Jonyngs feld and Sandenyscrosse 5 mark. To Kateryn Frensche the doughter of Thomas Frensche 20s. To the children of Symon Frensche 20s. To the children of Alice Halsnotte my suster 20s. To the children of John Hunte 20s. Tot he children of William Frensche 20s. To Elizabeth Fernsche the doughter of Thomas Frensche 20s.
Residue of all my money between my two doughters Johane and Elizabeth.
If my wif be wt a manchild I wil it shall have £10 assigned to John my son and £10 of Thomas part and £10 of Richards part. If it be a mayde child then John my son shall pay her 10 marcks to hir maryage.
To Thomas and Richard my sonnes euery of them a peyre of Sheryngshers.
