JOHN BURGEYS of Goutherst
[Goudhurst], 6 September 1509 1 Henry VIII. To be buried wt in the
church of Goutherst bifore thymage of Seynt Cristofer. To the light of
the herse 20d. To light bifore the holy crosse 6d. To the light bifore
thymage of Seynt John Baptist 12d. To the prior of Combewell 40s., to
euery chanon beyng preest of the same place 3s. 4d., to euery novice
there 12d., for to pray for my soule.
To the most necessary werks of the church of Goutherst 10 marc. To the
mynister of Modynden 3s. 4d., to euery preest of the same place 12d.,
and to euery novice there 6d. for to pray for my soule. (Same for
Aylisford). To the sheryn of Seynt Thomas of Canterbury 3s. 4d. To or
lady vndercroft ther 3s. 4d. To the shryneof Seynt Austen of Canterbury
20d.
To William Jeankyn of Haukherst 20s. To euery of Richard Muggers
children 8d. To 4 poore men 4 gownes to bere 4 torches at myn outbering.
To Margery Baytop my seruant 53s. 4d. To Margaritt doughter off Stephen
Horsmonden 3s. 4d. To Robert Burgeys my cosyn all my pakke at Cranebroke
wt all utensills perteyning to that same. To the prior and to the place
of Lossynham 3s. 4d.
To Elizabeth my wif the residue and she to be executrix and John Love,
sone of William Love late of Goutherst nowe dede, and Edmund Roberth of
Haukherst ouerseers, Sr. Walter Seyndon, Thomas Roberth of Breinchele
and Thomas Mercer.
Witness: Sr. Thomas Dagnale parisshe prest, Richard Mougg, John Jeankyn
and other moo.
Last will &e of londs &e in parishe of Goutherst. My feoffes
shall suffre Elizabeth my wif to have my house and garden that I bought
of James Rolfe and my medow called Greneslade forth wt a wodd in the
said medow and 3 peces of lond wt a wod callid Swygg and after her
decesse to Robert Burgeys and if he dye wt out heirs then to be sold and
to be bought to the church of Goutherst books, vestments and other
ornaments and to the reparacion of the said church.
To John Love myn executor a messuage and garden &e lying in the
Lower Strete which I late purchased of John Austen in fee symple paying
my wif Elizabeth 20s. a yere. My executors shall sell 2 pecs of lond
callid Petfeld to performe my last will. To my wif all the wodds I
bought of John Courtope.
I charge John Love to be kynde to my wif his moder otherwise I will that
she withdrawe hir good will fro hym and he to give wt in the space of a
yere next aftir my decesse vnto 3 poore folks 3s. in the worship of the
Trynitie. Also I geve vnto John Love, Hothfelde and Paysell. I will that
Robert Burgeys shall pay yerely to an obite for my soule 3s. 4d.
