JOHN STYLL thelder of the
parishe of Stone in the Ile of Oxney in Kent. 24 May 1556. To be buried
in Christen buryall. To the poore people of the said parishe the daye of
my buriall 20s. in money, a busshell of wheate to be baked in breade and
a barell of drynke (sic).
To the pore mens boxe of the same parishe 6s. 8d. and of Wittresham 3s.
4d. To poore of Stone at my monethes mynde 13s. 4d. in breade and drynke
and at my yeres mynde other 13s. 4d.
Vnto Agnes my wief the foldyd table in the Hall, the beste cubbord
there, a carpet, two spitts, two joyned stoles, one chayre, my best
fetherbed and bolster &e &e., all the lynnyn that she made synce
we were maried and 15 elles of rawe white clothe. Also three kyne, my
dune mare and colte, four ewes, two lambes, all my pultrye, two hogges,
fowre fleches of bakon and fowre seames of wheate, 3 seames of barley,
one seame of beanes and one seame and half of otes, two loades of haye
and two loades of strawe yerely to be delyuered to the saide Agnes oute
of the parsonage of Stone.
Vnto Katheryn Cheseman who is the daughter of Lewkners wife at her
mariage 20s.
Vnto the childern of Richard Hills of Wittersham he hadd by his wief
whiche was the doughter of John Cheseman 20s. when 18.
To Andrew Pott, Robert Pott and Valentyne Pott 20s. to euery of them.
To John Hasill and Thomas Hasill 20s. when 18. If they die to the
childern of Sampson Scott. Thomas Robynson 20s. Stephyn Robynson 6s. 8d.
when 18. To euery of the childern of Sampson Scott 6s. 8d. at 18.
Elizabeth Robynson £3. 6. 8. and two Kyne and Parnell Robynson 26s. 8d.
and one cowe, to either of them at mariage. If they both die then to
Thomas and Stephyn Robinson when 21.
Vnto John Hall my russet coote. John Awcke my black Cote. Olde Mother
Oxley one loode of logges and one lode of fagotts. Vnto Willyam my
seruaunte 13s. 4d. Elizabeth Lister my mayde seruaunt one payer of shets,
one pewter platter and one pewter dishe. Thomasyn Graunton my seruaunt
(the same).
My executors may sell my interest in one mesuage and garden in the Towne
of Apuldore towards paying of ye legacies of the childern of William
Wymonde deceased according to the testament and laste will of my ladie
Brownynge.
My executors to take profitts &e of my landes untill the some of
£406. 12s. be levied and they to fully answere and paie vnto the
childern of the saide Willyam Wymond all suche legacies as I am charged
to pay by the last will of the said Ladye Brownynge so that Johanne
Wymonde one of the children be ruled and governed by my said executors
upon pain of forfeiture and then that to remayne to her brothers.
Robert Jacson shall quyethie have to ferme one pece of pasture called
the Strake and 2½ acres in the parishe of Playden beinge parcell of the
lands I holde by extent to be hadd to the saide Robert during all the
terme of yeres I have in the saide landes, he to pay yerely 26s. 8d.
Robert Shepparde of Peysemershe, gentilman, and Thomas Phillip of Stone
to be executours.
Witness: John Moreley, John Vsburne, Alleyn Sampson, Clement Scornn,
John Slade, Robert Jacson.
Last will: of my landes in the parishes of Stone and Apuldore. To Agnes
my wief my principal howse that I dwell in and 15 acres of lande lyinge
together at the same side of the strete and one pece of grounde with two
gardens lyenge northwest to the Kinges strete right against the saide
howse north and east to the landes of the vigcarage of Stone containing
two acres; and after her decease I will Andrew, Robert and Valentyne
Pott, John Hasill and Thomas Hasill sonnes of Thomas Hasill, John Scott
and James Scott sonnes of Sampson Scott shall have the said howse and
landes equally to be devided.
Also to the Said Andrew, Robert, Valentyne, John, Thomas, John and James
my tenement that Thomas Collyns occupieth and 4 pecs of lande in said
parishe of Stone wherof one pece is called Lamsons, the second Kytehill,
3rd Great Spell crofte and the 4th Lytle spell
crofte and also fyve other parcells of land in Stone holdinge of the
Courte of Weke containing 9 acres, to be equally devyded and shisted.
Vnto Thomas Robynson and Stephyn Robynson the half of my tenement and
garden in Apuldore wherein Clement Pearson nowe dwellith.
Vnto Andrew Pott of Stone one pece of lande in Stone lyinge besides
Oxney fery there I late purchased of Willyam Brownynge, gentilman,
paying yerely 13s. 4d. vnto the churchewardens of the parish of Stone
forever to thuse of the poore people of the saide parishe to be
distributed by them yerely; the saide churchewardens and their
successors shall yelde accompte therof yerely vnto the parisheners howe
and after what sorte they have bestowed and distributed the same [power
to churchwardens to enter and distrayne in default].
Proved 28 September 1556 by Robert Shepperd executor. On 20 October 1557
Thomas Phillipp the other executor renounced in person of William
