WILLIAM MARSHALL, clerk,
parson of the parishe churche of Werehorn in the countie of Kent, 21
January in the yere of our lord god after the course and computacion of
the Church of England 1523. to be buried in the Conventuall church of
the holy Trinitie in the Citie of London before the awter of Saint
Gregory. And where the priour and convent of the same church be in
debted vnto me in £100 I will and bequeth there of vnto the necessary
bildings reparations and vses of the same church of the Holy Trinitie
£50. One Regular Chanon of the same to say masse and pray for the
soules of me and of my brother Maister Petir Marshall and all our frends
&e euery day in the weke by the terme of 12 yeres, and remainder of
the £100 for dirige and masse of Requiem yerely for 12 yeres.
I will two substanciall chalyses shalbe made of all my silver plate,
except two silver candlesticks, one to the vse of the church of Werehorn
and the other to vse of the chauntry lately founded in the parish church
of Tenterden in Kent.
I bequethe £20 for a vestment and Tunykills wt appurtenances of one
sute correspondent to a cope at Werehorn and hanging of an awter above
and beneth of saten to be delivered to the churchwardeyns and £4 in
like manner to the church of Tenterden to thuse of the said Chauntry
prest.
To two siluer candelsticks to be delivered to the churchwardeyns of the
church of Tenterden there to remayn and euery principal and festyvall
day to be sett at the aulter where the said Chauntry prest vseth and
shall say his masse.
I will and bequeth to mariage of pour maidens £10. I will to be
distributed amonge pour housholders and dwellers in the said parishes of
Apuldre and Warehorne £20.
To Henry Berugh my nevewe £20. To my cosyn Elyn £3. 6. 8.
I will that yf the inhabitaunts or other honest men of Apuldre will
cause a conduit of water sufficiently and surely to be erected and
conveyed into the Towne nere vnto the market place at Apuldre nere to
the place where the May Pole hath of late ben sett and to be fully
fynysshed wt in one yere and half yere next after my edesse then my said
executors to paye toward the making and charges of the said conduit of
water £40 and yf not so made then the money for the making of the high
way bitwen Apuldre and Fordmyll to ryde and goo.
To pour people in the parish of Tenterden £3. 6. 8.
To euery godsonne of my said Brother ijs. To mariages of euery of the
foure eldest doughters of Sir John Scott, Knyght, as yet not maryed
£20. I will that £23. 6. 8. which the lady Dame Sybill Scott, mother
of the said Sir John Scott owes me and £3. 6. 8. which Sir John Scott
owes me shall be parcel and of that 40 marcs, 5 marcs to euery mariage
of the said doughters to be parcell of the said £20.
I will myn executors shall aske, recouer and receyve of George Guldeford
Esq. £10 he owes me and the said £10 to go toward the purchasing
bilding or making of a convenient house for the said chauntry prest at
Tenterden to loige and teche his scolers accordingly.
The priour of the Conventual church to have my beddyng, he to suffre the
freres mynors of the house of Grenewich at their comying to London to
have resort, being and logging in the said chambers.
To John Wyke my seruaunt my mesuage in Apuldre which James Pycard nowe
occupieth and hath to ferme, he to bestowe yerely for 10 yeres one obite
in the church of Werehorn in the first yere thirde v. vij and ix yere
and the iv. vi. viii and x yere in the church of Apuldre.
My executours to take reuenues of all my other londes and tenements in
Apuldre and ellswhere in Kent unto the time my other londes be solde and
the money coming to fulfilling of my said bequest.
To John Sely late my seruaunt such householde stuffe as I have at
Werehorn. To Roger late my seruaunt my houshold stuff being in my house
of the Blak Freres at Caunterbury. My beddinge &e in my chambr at
Hall shall abide and remayn in the said chambr.
I will my boks being in my chambr at Christschurch in London shalbe
distributed to the Colleges in the vniuersite of Oxford and to the vse
of the freres mynors of Grenwich by discrecion of the priour of the said
Conventual Chirche and of Maister Rowland Philippes, parson of Saint
Mighell in Cornell, that is to say some of the boks to the said
vniversitie and the residue to abide in the said chambr to thuse of the
said Freres mynors at such tyme as they shalhave their resorte to the
said chamber.
To the Freres mynors of Caunterbury £3. 6. 8. To Freres Prechours of
Caunterbury 53s. 8d.
To Cristofer Hales to thentent he shall be helping ayding and
counselling to my executours my silver pott. Also my horse being in the
custody of Thomas Harlakynden.
At my buriall 6s. 8d. to the Priour. To euery Chanon except Sir George
xld. and to the said Sir George, chanon of the said church £3.
I will the cubbord, tabill and stolys nowe being in my said chambr at
Cristchurch shall abide and remayn.
All my other clothes not bequethed to Sir John Archer prest.
To suche pour scolars as shall determyn the next Lent in Oxford by the
discrecion of the said Maister Rowlande 40s.
To James Butler servant of the said Priour 6s. 8d. To the Wydowe of John
Forde of Apuldre 40s. To the sonne of James Stephen of Apuldre 20s. To
the sonne of William Bruer of Apuldre 20s.
Residue to John Hales, one of the Barons of the Kyngs Exchequer, Edward
Boughton Esquier and Sir John Archer, prest, to dispose for the helth of
my soule, the which I ordeyn my executour and maister Rowland Philippes,
parson of Saint Mighel in Cornell ouerseer.
Witnesse: John, Priour of the said Conventuall Church, Maister Rowlande
Philippys, Mathewe Smyth, principall of the College of Brasenose in
Oxford, Xpofer Hales, Henry Lumpneys, Petir Heyman.
