GYLIS ASSHERYNDEN of Apledore in Kent, 10 September 1541 (33 Henry VIII). To be buryed in the churche of Seynt Peter and Pawlle of Apledore. To the vse of the seyd churche £3. To the poor inhabitants of Apledore £10. To Thomas Carver one heyfer and a calf. To Richard Lyncolne one heyfer. To John Jogyn one cowe. To euer of my boyes and maydens 5s. above their wages. To Henry Standen above his wags. 13s. 4d., and to George Rypley 13s. 4d. and William Forde 6s. 8d. John Bysert 20s. [all above their wages – evidently servants]
To Thomas Knell 40s. To Thomas Grenefild 6s. 8d. William Vann £20 over the £80 given to him in the testament of Thomas Assherynden my father [the name is there spelled Affanne] and over and above such goods as were given to the said William by John Vann his father.
To the said William Vann my lease of the parsonage of Ebbeny as I had the same of Thomas A: my father.
To euery of my doughters Sybill, Susane and Joane A: £100 at 20 or maryage. To Margaret my wif £40. Residue to my executors for the fynding of my children tyll they come to full age of 20 or mariage.
George Phillip and Henry Golding my executors Thomas Knell ouerseer. Item I will my sone Richard shall go to gramer scole three yeres.
Last will: My feoffes to suffer my executors to have and perceyve all profytts vntill Richard A: my sonne come to his full age of 21 and to paye to Margaret my wyfe £20. If my sone die then to my doughters and if all die then my lands to Cristofer Assherynden sone of John A:, and if he die to be solde and money distributed in the parishes of Apledore and Tenterden equally in reparacion of the parish churches and to the poor.
If my wife be with child then to inherit as coheire, if a man child, and if a woman child to have £100.
I will that my ferme of Apledore maner shalbe lettyn by my executours.
