THOMAS ASCHERYNDEN of Apuldore. 1 January 1538. To be buryed in the churche or churcheyarde of the holy appostels of Seynt Peter and Paule in Apuldore. Vnto the reparacions of the same church 40s.
To my daughter Jelyan as moch mony on her mariage as I payd to her suster Sybell the wyfe of Gevage Phillipp.
To William Affanne sone of John Affanne to which maryed my doughter Johane £80 of myn owne proper goodes: viz at 30 yeres and not before except that my sone Gyles Ascherynden, John Atwood of Tenterden, George Phillip, Thomas Odierne, Yghame Affanne wt suche honest men doeth knowe and persayve that the sayd William Affanne be of good and sober conversacion and dothe vse hymselve well and discretely.
I will that Alice my wyfe have £40 and if she die then to Sybell and Alice the doughters of my sone Gyles A. Also to said Alice my best bed and asmoche of my best household as she ys dispoased to take and the rest to Gyles my sonne whom I make executour. Also two keanne two seames of whete and 2 seames of malte.
Itm. alweys Remembred for in 80 moche as the landes whiche I gave my wyfe to her Joynter at the tyme of her maryage ar now decayed and payred by the salte water wherfore I will that Gylis my sonne shall suffer the sayd Alice to have my howse that Richard Skaell dwellith in wt all suche landes as William Shotery hath in his occupying of myn being in Apuldore for her lyfe and also an hundred marks of laufull monye of England.
To the reparacion of the churche of Ebbney 40s.
To my Kynnesman Christofer Ascherynden £6. 13. 4. To Joane Dorne my servaunt 40s.
To Thomasyne my seruaunt a cowe and a calf. I will William Bersfeld shalbe forgyven £3. 6. 8. To the por people of Apuldore £5. To my servant Stephen Syluester a cowe and a calfe. To my serv’t John Malemary a heffurthe bud being not of the best nor of the worse. To my brothers wydowe Margarete A: £10.
To my brother William Brickynden £10.
I will vnto the por people of Redding Street 20s. and I will that my brothers widowe Margarete A: to have the disposicion of the sayd mony to be distributed to euery por person in the same strete havyng necessitie all malice set aparte.
I will that Gyles my sone shall fynnyshe my newe frame to the stedle and place that I have ment yt that ys to saye wher as Richard Skealle dwellith for yf he wil not then I will that Alice my wyfe shall have yt to her owne vse for to sell yt or to vse yt at her pleasur.
I will William Affanne have other the lease of my ferme of Apuldore or else of Ebbney and also that Richard Skealle shall have £20 at Cristmas cum twelmonthe next after the daye hereof. Witnesse Edward Godfray, Thomas Bunting and Gregory Alsnot with other.
