JOHN ASHWELL of Appuldore, 14 April 1531. To be buryed in the churche of Apuldore. To reparacon of the churche of Midley 6s. 8d. To the churche of Estegylford 6s. 8d. To all the lyghtys in my parrishe churche 12d. For breking of the ground in the chirche 6s. 8d. I will a legende to be bought to the chirche of Apuldore price £7. To my sonne Wyllyam all my landes and tenements in the parish of Milton as yt apperithe by my Fathers will and £10 when 18 yeres old.
To my sonne Edmund £10 when 18. To my doughter Margerye £6. 13. 4. when 20 or before if so be she mary. To Alice my doughter (the same). If any decease then to the churche of Apuldore by thandes of the churchewardeyns. To John my sonne £5, twoo kyne, a mare, and 5 shepe. To Richard Asshwell my Kynnessman £5, twoo kine, a mare and 5 sheepe and he to doo my wife as good service another yere as he hathe doon me. My goddoughter Parnell an heffer twoo yere of age. To Stephin her brother an heffer. To Margery my seruaunt when her yere comyth out £3. 6. 8. To Marione my seruaunt 10s. To Robert Gylsyn and Wyllyam Funtinge and John Botrar 20s. a pease and a sheepe. To Elisabeth Bunting 10s.
Elyn my wife my only executour and I ordeyne Edward Godfree and Wyllyam Cheryton ouerseers.
To Ellyn my wife residue of all my yeres in my twoo fermes that ys to saye Estgilford and Midley.
Wytnesse Maister Chylham, Edmond Robyn, Morgan Welche, John Assheley, Wyllyam Wane.
It yt shall happin my childerne to be misordered at any tyme yt shalbe leaful for my ouerseers to take them and to kepe them to scole, my wife or her assignes to pay the coostes therof.
Also to Maister Chilham 10s. to sing a trentall for me and all xpen soules.
