ARTHURE LOVEKYN of the parishe
of Barsted in Kent, 4 March 1545. To be buried in the church off Barsted
where Anne my wife lyeth. At my buriall in dirige and masses 10s. and 3s.
4d. to be geven in charitie to the pour people and moost nedye of the same
parishe and likewise at my monethis mynde and asmoche at my yeres mynde. I
will there be vj pound of newe waxe made in foure tapers that is to witt
euery quarter of the yere a newe taper conteynyng a pound of waxe and a
halfe and those tapers to be lighted and burne on the highe aulter before
the blissed Sacrament at the tyme of the highe masse on the Sunday,
Wenisday and Fryday by the space of oon hole yere after my deceas, and the
clerk in doyng his diligence to se those lighted and vsed accordinge to
this my will to have 4d., and the vicar or his depute there sayng masse
euery of the said dayes at the Lavatorie to say De profundis with
the Colet of the Trinitie, Libera nos, for me, my wife Anne, my
father, my mother soules and all xpen soules and he or they to have for
the same doinge of oon hole yere 20d.
Item I will that on good Frydaye next after my deceas there to be gevyn in
charite to fyve pour and of the pourest housholders in the same parishe of
Barsted euery of them foure pence to pray for my soule and all xpen soules
and euery quarter of the yere immediately after my deceas there be gevyn
in brede and drynke to the pour prisoners in the gaole of Maidestone 6d.
To Arthur Lambe 6s. 8d. Peter Henley 6s. 8d. John Elys, John Raynolde and
Arthur Love euery of them 20d. Vnto John Taylour of London, taillour, sixe
siluer sponys and my salt of siluer with the couer. Vnto Walter Tailour of
Barsted, late of Leadys, the vse and occupacion and profite and the
puttinge owt therof to the most profite and vse my Leasse of the parsonage
of Barsted he paying therfore yerely at termes vsuall to be paide to the
Lorde of the saem parsonage servyn pounds xiijs. iiijd., accordinge to the
Articles and couenaunts in the Indentures comprised and after the deceas
of the said Walter Tailor I will that John Taillour his sonne to have the
same leasse. I will that Walter Tailour aforesaid shalhave during his lyfe
my tenement howse and howsing garden and orchards callid Oterasne (?) and
one pece of lande therto adioynyng in the parishe of Barsted and thre
other pecs of lande in the parishe of Alington besids the lande of Edwarde
brokehole gent and oon other pece of lande callid Norde wt in the said
parishe paying the Lord and Lords their yerely Rents and Keping
reparacions necessarie from wynde and rayne and all other reparacions of
dekeyse doon by occasion of his catalls and servaunts. After decease of
the said Walter Tailour, John
Tailour the sonne of the said Walter Tailour of Barsted, late of Ledys,
shalhave the said Tenement &e callid Oterashe wt in the parishe of
Barsted with the lands in Alyngton and lande callid Norde and the same
John Tailour to paye to John Lovekyn 20 marks and paye to thexibicion of
Raufe Anderson fyve marks and to the mariage of Rabadge Davye 40s. and to
Alice Fox of Ledys 40s. Myn apparell aswell gownes, jaquets and doblets to
John Lovekyn and Richard Taylor and all other my movables &e to John
Tailor aforsaid whom I do ordeyn my sole executor and Walter Tailour
overseer. Written wt myn owne hand per me Arthur Lovekyn.
On 11 February 1546 administration was granted to Walter Tailour father of
John Tailour executor of Arthur Lovekyn ‘ad viam intestati’ because
John Tailour executor died before he took up the work of executorship. In
person of John Lambe gentleman, his proctor.
