THOMAS BOURGCHIER, Knyght, 3 September 1512. To be buried in the churche of the Monastery of Boxley in Kent, in suche place as is appoynted and agreed bitwene the Abbot of the saide monastery and me, in whiche place by the sufferaunce of God I entend to edifye and make a chapell and an aulter there and to founde a chapleyne of the same monastery to syng daily in the same for euer to pray for my soule, the soules of my lord Cardynall Courghchier late myne vncle, Dame Agnes and Dame Anne late my wifs, my lord my father my lady my mother, Edward my sonne, all my freends soules and all those soules whome I am most bounde of duetie to pray for.
To the high aulter of the parish churche of Leds 5s., and of Bromefild 5d., of Sainct Mary Magdaleyne in Suthewerke 3s. 4d. To poor people at my burying 20 marc. To 10 maydens beyng of good conversacion and vertuously disposed euery of them 40s. To our Lady of Cavesham beside Redyng a vestment of white damaske a red wt garters and Bourgchiers knotts, God and our Lady therewith to bee served and honoured in the holy place. To or Lady of Walsyngham a tablet of gold of the Image of the woman of Camarye havyng the pictur of the holy vernacle garnisshed wt perle and stone, there to remayne in that holy place in the honor of God and our Lady and to thentent the Abbot and Convent ther shalhave me and Dame Agnes and Anne late my wifs and or chilern in Remembraunce and pray for our soules. This Tablet was sent to Walsyngham in my lif and ther offred by the hands of Nicolas Bone.
I bequethe to Saint Thomas of Canterbury a crosse of golde wt 4 perles and a sharpe Dyamound sette in the myddes, there to remayn in the honnor of God, Our Lady and Saynct Thomas.
To my Lorde of Cauntorbury a grete Ryng of Gold with a saphyr sette in the same beseching hym to Remember me and to be good Lord to my wife and myne executours.
To my Lord Berners for a Remembraunce a cuppe of golde playne wt a cover and a saphyr in the toppe of the cover.
To Dame Anne my wife asmoche of my plate such as it shall like hir best and at hir election as shall amount to the sm of oone hundred marks at 3s. 4d. the ounce of whit plate and percell gilte and gylte plate at 3s. 8d. the ownce. Also 100 marcs from the sale of my household stuf &e and 50 marks in redy money.
To my nevew Thomas Nevell a jewell to the vale of £10. To prior of Aylisford 20s. To Florence Peverell £10 which was of the bequest of Dame Agnes late my wife. Vnto Thomas Culpeper the soone of Alexaunder Culpeper my godson 40s. to pray for my soul. Vnto Thomas Culpeper the soonne of Walter Culpeper my godsonne 40s. Isabell Sentleger my goddoughter 20s.
To my chapell wt in the churche and monastery of Boxley a holy water stoppe at a sprynkal of syluer parcell gilte, oone chaleyes with the patent of syluer and gylte, twoo cruetts of syluer, oone paxe of silver and gilte. oone sakryng bell of syluer percell gilte, oone apparell of an aulter of blak saten fugery wt a vestment of ………… and oone apparell for an aulter of white clothe of Bawdekyn, and oone vestment of the same sute of white cloth of Bawdekyn.
My feoffees to make a sure estate to Dame Anne my wife in the manor of Halsted in Kent by dede indented, whiche manor the saide Anne to have for terme of her life in name of hir joynctor accordyng to the Covenaunte made vpon marige had bitwene hir and me. The reuersion of the same to my seruant Nicolas Bone and to his heires for euermore. My feoffys in my manor of Ansford in Kent to make a sur estate to Syr John Pechye, Knyght, and suche other as he shall name on condicion that he pay to the vniversities of Oxenford and Cambridge £200 that is euery of theym £100 whiche is of the legacye of my lorde Cardynall Bourgchier late myne vncle within a yere or els myne executors make sale of saide manor of Aynsford to pay the saide £200.
I make Dame Anne my wife, Sir Edward Ponyngs, Knyght, Sir John Pechye, Knight, Alexaunder Culpeper Esquier and Maister Thomas Welles, doctor of divinities executours.
To saide Sir Edward Ponyngs £5 and a garter wt lettres of gold sette wt perle and stone. My Lord Archebusshoppe of Cauntorbury of his charitie to be good lord vnto me and myn executours and to be supervisor.
