JOHN SYMONDE of Essheford. 18 Marche 1513. To be buried in the Churche of Essheford [Ashford] afore the highe Crosse there. To euery light in the church 12d. To John Austen sonne of John Austen my godson 6s. 8d. I bequeth to the makinge of a newe vestery within the churche yarde of Essheforde where it shalbe thought most necessary £6. To mendyng of highwayes bitwene Essheforde and Kyngesnoth £21 at discrecion of Henry Essheherst, John Pyx and Richard Thorneton of Kyngesnoth which £21 is in the handes of Sir John Fogge, Knight. To the beyinge of a newe Sensur for the church of Assheford 40s. To an honest prest one Sir William of Holingborn yf he will singe for my soule vj yeres £40.
To Margaret Craye my seruant 40s. To my brother William Pemyll my violet gowne. To Mark Hand my russet gowne. Residue to Margery my wyfe, John Austen and Robert Easteley my executors.
Last will: My feofees Richard Foule, Stephyn Roger, Augustyne Lynch, Robert Ham, John Lyncrok and William a Fryght, to suffer Margery my wyfe to take issues of my lands &e in Kent for her lyfe and after to the said Mark Ham, except my londs in Newecherch in Rumney Mershe which my feoffes shall enfeffe one James Rene, those in Burmarshe to Augustyne Lynche, those in Great Chart to William Ham. The tenement I bought of Thomas Chapman the which is Copyeholde in the towne of Essheford I will Richard Tracy of Wye take it.
My lands in Kenyngton my feoffes shall enfeffe one Richard Wodeward in. Land I bought of Symon Mannynge of Mersham my feoffes to deluier a state and the money shalbe bestowed in the pavynge of the Towne of Essheford.
Lands in Mersham I bought of Petir Belling I will the said Petir bye them yf he woll and the issues and profits to kepinge of the Crosse light in the church of Essheford.
Lands in Wodchurch which Preston holdeth (similarly) also my londs at Rokys hille my feoffes shall infeffe Harry Hamon there in.
My lands at Snoth Hill in Betherysden I will Stephyn Chapman of Bethisden bey for £5 yf he will.
My tenement which my brother Penyll dwellith in.
An annuytie of 20s. by yere of certeyn londs in Wodechurch of John Clerk. To said Richard Pemyll 10 marcs worth of Wollen Cloth out of my shop.
After decesse of my wife my landes in Mereworth to Thomas Asten of Tywell in the parish of Gowdeherst.
My lands in Tentyrden to Percyvall Asten brother to forsaid Thomas Asten.
Londes in Betherysden bought of Hugh Hope and Robert Borman to the said Parcyvall Asten.
Londes in Challok to be sold. Landes in Charryng the which William Pemyll hath in ferme shalbe solde after decesse of my said wife.
My londs at Charrynge the whiche one Doule now hath to ferme to be solde.
Lands in Broke to Petyr Best for £40.
After decease of my wife my feoffees to make a state to William Pemyll my brother in a tenement that Gryffyne Drake nowe dwellith in. Also I will after decease of my said wife my said feffees deliuer a state to the said William Pemyll of and in a pece of lond of an acre lying besides the Vicarage of Essheford towards the East.
To William Hame of Hethe my tenement in which John Harman now dwellith after decesse of my wife he to paye to Robert Ham and Harry Ham his brethern 10 mrcs.
Roger Baker my seruant a tenement which John Ilberd now dwellith in.
My two houses the which Harry Hamon and Thomas Norman nowe dwellith in shalbe solde.
Thre yards of medowe in Westmede to be solde by my wyfe and John Austen to William Pemyll my brother.
My two shoppes at the churche style to be solde and the money t discrecion of my wyfe and John Austen.
