Houeden of Cranbroke in Kent, clothier. To be buryed wt in the churche of
Cranbroke. To high altar 2s. To the repairing of the same church 13s. 4d.
On day of my buriall to preestis, clerkes and poor people to pray for my
soule, my father and mother and all chresten soules £4. At my mounethis
daye £4 and at the 12 mounethis day £4. Euerye Friday for one yere fyve
pence to five poor folkes.
To Anne my wif all my bras, pewter, candilstiks, spittes, cobirous,
dripping pannes, and other vesselles, excepted my furnace wt all other
brewing vesselles that are vsed and occupied to brewe withal whether they
be bras or wod. Excepted alwaies all my workehouse vesselles. Also to the
said Anne all manner of lynnen, bedding, bed- steades, chestis, fourmes,
tables, stooles, cubbourds &e., four Kyne of the best of twoo horses
wt sadelles and bridilles, twoo seames of wheate and of malt one seame of
ootes and £80. She shalhave the twoo gesson [ = guesten] chambers wt in
my dwelling house &e.
To Richard Hovenden my sonne £40 when 20. To Thomas Hovenden my sonne £4
when 20. To Giles Hovenden my sonne £40 when 20. To Dorothee Hovenden my
daughter £40 at her mariage. To Alice Hovenden my daughter £40 at her
marriage. To Anne Hovenden my daughter fower marks yerelie for her life
and if it be not paid she to have my twoo feelds belonging to my
mansion-house, thone called Sheepefelde and thother Pondefeeld.
Residue to John Hovenden my eldest sonne my soole executor and Stephen
Sharpe ouerseer.
Last will: of my lands, tenements &e. in Cranbroke and Hawkehurst.
Anne my wif my twoo tenements in the town of Cranbroke and after her
deathe to Richard Hovenden my sonne and if he die before 21 then to Thomas
and Giles Hovenden my sonnes egallie and if they die to John Hovenden my
sonne.
My sonne Richard Hovenden at 21 my tenement called Hodes with 14 acres in
the parish of Cranbroke and one wood called Foxendge in parish of
Cranbroke. If he die to Thomas and Giles my sonnes and if they die to John
my sonne. To Thomas my sonne at 21 my twoo tenements in parish of
Hawkherst [with remainder as before].
My twoo tenementes or messuages in Hasilwoodd in parish of Cranbroke to my
sonne Giles Hovenden at 21 [remainder as before].
My principal mesuage and lands in parish of Cranbroke whiche I bought of
Thomas Hartridge, all such landes as I bought of John Tebolde in the same
parish of Cranbroke and also my mylle and lands in the same parish I
bought of William Courthop to my son John Hovenden.
In presence of George Atkinson, vicar, Steven Sharpe, Henry Kyngeswood.
Codicill. To Anne my wife 4 seames of wheate and two of malte and £20.
£10 each to my sonnes Richard, Thomas and Giles Hovenden. My wife to have
the occupying of all money bequeathed to my three younger sonnes, Richard,
Thomas and Giles and my doughters Dorothee and Alice Hovenden.
Witnesses: John Ware, Steven Sharpe, Robert Rayner.
