18 July 1551 (5 Edward VI).
Richard Marden of Cranebroke in Kent gentilman sonne and heyre of William
Marden late of Benynden in the saide Countie deceassed. To be buryed in
the parishe churche of the same parishe in which I shall fortune to
departe from this my present life, and to the said churche Tenne shillings
and to preests, clerks and other mynisters in the churche and to poore
people at the day of my buryall £10 at discrecion of my executrix.
I give to my mother Johane Marden, wydowe, all my right &e. in all the
goodes &e. of my saide father. To my brother John Marden all my
apparell. To my susters Agnes, Joane and Anne to euery of them £20. To my
cosyn John Marden of Canterbury 20 marks.
To Richard Alcok of Tenterden my office and fee of 40s. by yere for ye
stuardshipp of certyn manors late of Sir John Dudeley Knight nowe Erl of
Warwick and Dame Johane his wief and the patent of the same which I bought
of hym. To Barbara Wytherden and to Thomasyne
Willarde my goddoughters and also to the fyrst woman childe that my syster
Anne shall happen to have to euery of them 5 marks. To my said brother
John Marden all my ferme and term of yeres in the manor of Flete in the
said countie parcell of the possessions of Therle of Oxforde.
To Richard Marden my godsonne, sonne and hyre of my late Brother George
Marden deceased my revercon and terme of yeres in the manor of Wathynden
in Bedynden.
To John Fowle and William Longe my old faithfull servants 40s. and to
euery other of my seruants as well men as women 10s.
To my mother rest of my household stuff, plate &e. which I have at
Benynden in the house of John More, gent, and my house there called
Mangles. Also to my said mother my fee of 20 marks by yere whiche I have
of the Kings matie. during the lyfe of Fraunces Baknall oute of the late
monasterie of Christs Churche Twynham in Co. South’ton. Residue to my
most derelye beloved Dame Margerie my wief, executrice.
This ys the last will: of my manors, landes and tenements ffirst be yt
remembred that I have assigned to the Kinges maiestie during the nonage of
my heire the full thirde partie of all my manors &e. All that my manor
of Totton in Countie South’ton being of the clere yerely value of £4.
3. 3. over and above all chargs. Also those lands parcell of my manor of
Wellowe in the saide Countie now in the tenures of Thos. Gawntlet, Thos.
Cowper and Thos. Over of Wellowe of yerely value of 35s.
I will my said Brother John Marden shall take all thissues of my said
manor of Wellowe for parcell of the thirde parte of all my lands until the
said Richard Marden sonne and heyre of my late brother George Marden come
to his full age of 21, in recompence of suche lands &e. as I had to me
and to myne heyres of the gifte and feoffament of the same my brother John
whiche said Manor of Wellowe the saide 35s. deducted is of the clere
yerely value of £11. 7.
And concerning the lands and tenements &e. I holde in Kent I will my
said Mother shall have and enioye the same for life according to the dede
indentyd by me made to Richd. Tylden, Vyncent Wytherden and Robert
Willard, 7 October 2 Edward VI and remainder after decease of my said
Mother to my Brother John Marden. Also to him my house or tenement in
Watlyng Strete in London called the George, he to release to my said wief
the £100 I owe hym.
To my said three susters the tenement in Watling Strete in London I late
purchased of Walter Yonge and Edmond Yonge, they to paye threscore pounds
I owe for the purchase.
