15 October 1479. I John Hikkys, to be buried in "eccliastica sepultura". To hich altar of the parish church of Cranbroke 20d. To the new work in the north part of the same church 12d. To the finding of a taper for 12 years before the image of St. Dunstan, each year 12. Residue to Katherine my wife and Thomas Bake whom I make executors to dipose for my soul. (Latin)
This is the last will of me John Hikks writen and rehersid by me bodely to Thomas Baker and John Dowle, Laureuce Taillor and Thomas Glover my feoffers of a messuage in Cranebroke upon the renne of Cranebroke and of shop in Benenden vppon the denne of Benenden and of the reuersion of 8 pecs of land in Roynden when it falleth after the decesse of Kateryn my wif and all lands I had of the gift and feoffament of John Pope of Smallhede in the parissh of Tenterden.
Alianor my suster to have 40d. a yere till the heire of John Crocheman come to a lawfull age and then she to have £3. My feoffees shall delyuer a state to my heires of my messuage that John Dowle dwellith in when they come to the age of 20 yere and if it hap my children to decesse wt out heres then the 8 peccs lying in Roynden shall remayne to Herry my brother and in default to Edward my brother and if eche have none heres it shall fynde a lampe in the church of Roynden. If all die my foeffees shall pay to Alianor my suster 10 marcs and to an arnament to serve the church of Cranebroke 10 marcs. Also I will my shop in Benenden shalbe sole to pay my detts &e and Alianor my suster to hur mariage 20s. Robert Bever shall have the house that I dwell in if so be that he will pay to Kateryn my wife £12 or Ellis Thomas Baker.
