RICHARD HELY of Maydestone [Maidstone], merchaunt, 13 August 1558 ( 5 and 6 Philip and Mary). To be buried in the churchyarde of the parishe churche of All Saints in Maydestone besides the sepulture of my mother and sister heretofore there bured. To the highe aulter 6s. 8d. to buy therewt one alter clothe mete for the saied alter. At my burial 40s., at my mounethes day 40s.
To my sonne Thomas Hely £42 which he will have money or wares. Also al my hangings in the hall of the house wherein I nowe dwell set in Maydestone and one cubberd there wt all tables, chaires &e., cobb yarnes, awndyernes &e all my hangings, beddes, bedsteadells, presse table and other vhensyles and implements within the littell parloure of the saide house next the hall and the implements of household in the kitchen and in the kitchen chamber, except a bed &e I give to John Snott my seruante. Also to the saide Thomas Hely my sonne a bedd with the apparel standynge next the dore of the greate parlour in the saide house with the Tables, settells in and aboute the greate parlor. Also all my chistes, settles and compters in my warehouse beste gowne being at London furred with Budy and my Ridinge coate garded with velott.
To seven children of the saide Thomas Hely my sonne to euery £6. 13. 4. as they attayne 21
or mariage. If they all die then to Thomas their father and if he be dead then to Bennet their mother wife to my said sonne Thomas. Richard Hylls my sonne in lawe, citizen and marchaunte of London shall have the custody of all the money bequethed to the sevyn children of Thomas my sonne to the moste profytte and aduantage of the saide children, and to the said Richard Hylls and his wief a gold rynge.
To my cowsen John Broothe and to Johan his wief a rynge of gold. To Christian West my kynswoman wief to John Weste, mercer 40s. To Isabell Mason my mayde seruaunt 40s.
Residue to Elizabeth my welbelouyd wief and executrix and my trustie frynde Richard Hills ouerseer.
