MARY FYNCHE, wedowe, one of the gentilwomen of the Quenes highness mooshe honorable prevy chamber. 19 June 1557 ( 3 & 4 Philip and Mary).
To be buryed in the parrishe churche of Maidstone in Kent if it shalhappen me to dye at Allyngton in the saide Countie. No pompe but in the parishe churche where I am buryed and in three other parishes next adjoyning dirge and masse. to be saide and songe by the preestis of the same. To euery preest 20d., to euery clerke 12d and to the poore people £10.
To Freers obseruauntes of Grenewiche £10. Freers obseruauntes of Southampton £10. To the Blacke Freers in London £10. To the nonnes of Syon £10. To the nonnes of Langley in Co. Hertford £10. To the monks of Charterhouse of Shene £10, to praye for my soule and all christian soules. A cope of blacke veluet, a westment wt deacon and subdeacon and twoo aulter clothes of blacke veluet to the parishe wheare I shall happen to be buryed as an ornament to thornor of God there to remayn.
A yerlie obite during all the yeres I shalhauve to come in the mannor of Allynfton and other landes in Kent of the demyse of graunt and lease of our said soverayne lorde and ladye, in the parishe churches of Maidestone, Ailesforde, Allyngton and Boxley and yerelie £6. 13. 4. to be I moost humblie beseche the Quenes most excellent majestie to accepte and take a ringe of gold wt a table diamounte in it which the Kinges heighnes gave me, as a significacon of my thanckefull mynde to her grace for her greate benefite done to me, whome I pray God longe to preserve and kepe to his moste gloriouse will and pleasure in all goodness.
My executor shall cause 25 ringes of gold wt the figure of death hed in euerye of them euery ringe of the value of 40s. [Then follows a list of persons at the Court to whom these were to be given, omitted here as not Kentish interest] [of others of her kindred &e she names] myn aunte the Lady Kempe, to my cousen Mr. Anthony Kempe. To the Officers of the housholde 40s., of the celler 40s. &e &e.
To my cousen mestres Mary Tommewey a cru of siluer of 20 oz. and to her daugher Mary a standing cup of siluer gilt. To my cousen the Lady West, widowe, late wife to Sir Owen West, Knight, a cuppe of siluer gilt. To my cousen Mary Poynings, my goddoughter, a salte of siluer gilt. To Miaster Vitzchamberleyn my flatte clocke and to Maister Doctor Hughe for his paynes £4. To my cousen Constance Sackvile £40 and to her daughter Fraunces £10. To my nece Anne Wyatt towardes her marriage £10. To my nece Marye Wyatt towards her marriage £100. To my nece Jane Wyett £10 until she shalbe marryed, yerelie, towards her educacon and bringing up.
To my nephews Arthur Wyatt, George Wyatt towards their honnest educacon £10 yerlie.
To myn Vncle Mr. Gregorye Kempe £4 yerelie. To my most faithefull freende Mr. George Moulton yerely £6. 13. 4. To Roger Baker, Thomas Stevenson my seruante £4 yerelie. To my cousen Mr. Richard Tonmew and Mary his wife those yeres I have in the said mannor and all that the house and scite of the late monnasterye of Boxley and three peces of pasture called the Cowe pastures, one pece of land called Buckeley Hill and one pece of woodland in Boxley neere to the walls of the saide late monnasterye and all the landes &e in Boxley late in the tenure of Thomas Isley gentilman and Marye his wif of the demise and graunt of Sr. Thomas Wyatt, Knight and 7 acres in Mayfelde in parish of Boxley in tenure of Boyse.
I will that Sr. John Guldeford Knight shalhave thordre of disposicion of the said mannor of Allington during the terme to come and he to pay of the issues the yerlie somes appourt above and if he decease then my cousen Mr. Richard Tommewe and if he decease then Mr. Richard Baker sonne and heire apparent of the right honorable Sr. John Baker Knight and if he die then Sr. Thomas Kempe Knight.
To my ladye Mason a loose gowne of velui embrotherd and to my suster the Ladye Wiatt a loose gowne of sateen.
Residue part to the houses of Freers, monks 5 and nonnes before mentioned to pray for my soul and part to poor of Maidstone, Ailesforde, Allyngton and Boxley and third part to reparation of the Bridges of Ailesford, Maidestone, Testan, Rochester, Twiford and Brantbridge in Kent.
Executors Sr. John Guldeford, Sr. Thos. Kempe, Richard Baker, Richard Tommewe and George Moulton. Sr. John Baker ouerseer.
To my cousen the lady Gulford my best gowne of veluit embrodered wt marygolds.
Certayne muncupative legacies of mestres Mary Fynche: To one maister Edmunde Tirrel £4. To a maide called Mestres More 40s. To the wife of one called Hogge the Quenes foot—a table clothe of diaper. To Mr. Anthony Kempe a payer of bracelettes of golde. To Mystres Tomyowe a rounde watche and larme gilt and a payer of sables. Witness Rauf Jackson, maister of the Savoye, Wm. Mason, Thos. Barbour.
