ROBERT SHETHER citezein and
merchaunt Taillour of London of the parishe of Saint Mighell vpon
Cornell. 16 June 1528. To be buried wt in the parishe church of same if
it please God that I may ende my lyfe in London. To the church of
Maidestone where I was cristyned two torches. To euery awter in the same
church of Miadstone an awter cloth wt curteyns of Rede and Yelowe saye,
redy made and lyned.
To Robert Shether my sonne £100 and a standing cupp gilte wt a cover
and two gobletts wt 2 covers oon gilt and oon white.
To eche of my doughters £100 to their mariages and a standing cupp with
a cover and a goblet wt a couer and a litill pott of siluer to drynke al
in, and all these things to be of oon valor oon as good as a nother.
To John Shether £10 and a goblet and a crewse of siluer.
To Edmonde Shether, if he be noo prest, as moch as I have gevyn to
Robert and if he be a prest £40 towards his fynding and chargs to the
gree of the scoles. [i.e. degree at a university].
If any of my children deceas or they be maried then the procion to be
devided amonge them be alyve.
To eche of sustres children 20s. and to eche of Henry West is children
6s. 8d. To Richard Short and to Henry West a blake gowne. To Richard
Broke and his wife 20s. To my godson his childe two siluer sponys. To my
brother Traves childern two sponys a pece. To my company the merchaunt
taillors of London for breking of my somans 20s. and fyve doseyn napkyns
of diaper to the valor
of xij a pece to serve the company when they have nede and to euery
brother in the company that comyth to my burying a spyce bonne and a
kake.
To my brother Traves and his wife and to Thomas Hanfford and his wife a
blake gown.
My two houses in Maideston to be solde and the money gevyn in almes for
my soule &e.
My wife, Richard Traves and Thos. Hanfford executors and Maister Gune,
maister Coll and John Shether ouerseers. (Obits &e in London at
Merchant taillors hall &e).
