RICHARD VEDYAN of the parishe of Maydston [Maidstone], 26 October 1516. To be buryed within the chircheyerd of the College of Alhalowes in Maydston. To the high aulter of East Farleygh 12d., of West Farleygh 4d. To the College of Maydston 40s. upon condicion they nor noon of them doo not trouble nor vexe myn heres nor executors for no maner of bond that I am bounde in to the master and his brethren for Sr. Thomas Hanson, steward of the same place for his accompt. To euery seruaunt in my house 4d. To the high weye from Newewerke style vnto the bridge of Maydston 5s. To the high weye at East Farleygh from the chirche vnto the vicariage of East Farleygh 20d.
To Johan my wyffe £20 and half of my houshold stuff, she to fynde suretie for the othir half to the behoff of my children at the age of 21 the yongest child. Residue to be sold and so moche land bought and Johan my wyf to have the ayd so purchessed land tyll my yongest child comyth to the age of 21. I will Myhall Afeld shall have all my wolle of my shepe at Sheryng tyme next, paying for euery flese of the same shepe 4d. To Alys Felde my goddoughter an ewe lambe to pray for me.
Executors: Joan my wif and John Claye and to the said John Claye 40s.
Last will: My feoffes shall suffyr Johan my wife to have issues of all my lands vnto the tyme my yongest sone come to the age of 21 vpon this condicion that she fynde my hildren to scole tyll that they can wryte and rede and that if eny of theym wylbe prests I wyll that she fynde them and helpe therto the best that she can. When my yongest son is 21 all my lands and tenements shalbe devyded egally behven my wyff and my three children.
If all die then to be sold and bestowed in forme folowing: I wyll John Clayes children by my suster his wyff have £20. Upon the fowle weye between Bowe myll and Watteryngberye Crosse 10s. An honest prest at the chosyng of the maister of the College to syng for my soule, my wyff and my childs soules 10 mrk, in the College church and another at East Farleigh and another at West Farleygh. To the fowle weyes between East Farleygh Crosse and Maydston by the advyse of the chirchewardeyn of East Farleygh 20s.
