JOHN PIERSON of the towne of Maydeston [Maidstone], 24 May 1516. To be buried in the parishe church of Maydeston afore the Image of the Roode, beneth the steppes in the body of the churche afore the quire doore. To Sr. Robert my gostly father 20d. To reparacon of the church 40s. To the Greate Bridge 40s.
To litle Robert Holde lately my seruaunt 40s. A preest to sing at Jesus Aultar in saide churche euery day duryng the mouith 4d. To euery suche masse for the offeryng a masse peny. After the monith an honest preest to sing for me a hole yere at the saide aulter between the howres of vij and viij in the mornyng. To an obyte during the space of 7 yeres 20s. euery yere.
To Thomas my sonne a fetherbed (and other household furniture &e). Residue to Joane my wife and she and Nicholas Elys gent executors and Joane my wif shall have the keping of Thomas my sonne, and if she is maried, Joane Kele my suster to have the kepyng of the said Thomas and 53s. 4d. anuytie. To Elizabeth Hitclot my seruant 40s.
Last will: of my lands in Maydeston, Ditton and Aylesforde. Whereas Rycharde Lee esquire, High Warham gent, John Fyssher thelder gent, Rycharde Basse and John Lylly, stand and be seasid in all my landes &e., they shall stand seased to thuse of Joane my wife and shall suffre the same Joane to take and perayue the Revenues and profut for her life, paying my sone Thomas yerely 53s. 4d. After decesse of Joane my wife and Thomas my sonne my feoffes shall delyuer an astate of the mesuage in wyche I dwell to Rycharde Pierson my brothers sonne and in default to Joane my wif.
After decesse of Joane my wif and Thomas our sonne my feoffes shall delyuer an astate of my mesuage sett in Mydle Rowe to John Kytt, Alyce Kytt and Elizabeth Kytt my susters children.
My tenement called Bowre and lands appurteyn 80 acres shall be sold and £40 to churche of Maydeston and £20 to fraternytie of Corporis Xpi. To reparation of the greate Bridge of Maydeston £10 and reparation of the 4 high wayes about the towne of Maydeston by thouersight of the honest men of the towne £10.
If Rycharde Pierson my brothers sonne be able to by the saide tenement and lands he to
have the same for £80.
Wittenes: Sir Robert Warde my goostly fader, John Lee gent., Rychard Hely, Rycharde Lylly, John Hoker and Thomas Elys.
