RYCHARDE BICKENDEN [sic in margin BREKENDEN] thelder of the paroch of Maidstone in Kent, yoman. To be buried in the church or churche yerde of Maydestone. To Jesus light 20d. To our lady light 20s., of Saint John 12d., of Saint Maragarett 8d., of Saint Katherine 8d., of Saint Nicholas 8d. To mending of fowle wayes betwene Cumden hyll and Wylton hyll 5 marc. To poor maydens mariages 5 marc. To my brother Dane Wyllyam Brekenden £4. To euery monke being preest within the monastery of Roberde Bregge in Sussex 3s. 4d., and being no preest 12d. To Agas Waterman 5 marc. To mayntenance of the Brotherhod of Corporis Christi of Maidestone 4 marc. To Rychard Herenden, gent., 10 marc for his labor. To Antony Borough 40s. for his labour, which Rychard and Antony I make executors and Dane Wyllyam Brekenden my brother ouerseer.
Witness: Sr. Gyles Reed, submaster of the College of Maidestone, Joan Netter, Michaell Afeld and Thomas Kyng.
Last will: Rycharde Herenden and other feoffes to delyuer to John my sonne my place and all my landez I late bought of one Wyllyam parke in paroche of Chart next Sutton Valaunce and £60 when 24. To Symounde my sonne my lands and tenements in paroches of Hetcrone and Fretynden at thage of 24 and 10 marcs of mony. To Thomas my sonne in redy mony £80 when 24. To Rycharde my sonne all my landez and tenements in paroche of Stapleherst and 10 marc at thage afore. To Benett my wif out of my landes &e in paroche of Maideston, Farleigh and Hetcrone an anuytie of £5 by yere and all my household stuff and plate.
To Stephyn myn sonne all my landez &e in paroches of Maideston and Farlegh at thage of 24 paying to his mother 50s. yerely, also all my landez and tenements in Cranebroke [Crabrook] immediately after my deceas to fynde hym to scole, except my lande in Mylkehouse whiche I wyll to Robert Brekenden by the direcon of Rychard Herenden myn executor.
To John my sonne the profute of my mylls at Small Brege to fynde hym to scole.
If my wif be with a man chylde Symonde my sonne shall paye him 20 marc at 24 yere of age and Rychard my sonne shall pay 10 marc and the said Rychard to have for it my Rent of Duxherst and Henherst in the parish of Stapleherst [Staplehurst] or ellswhere belonging to the saide manor or tenement. If a doughter then Rychard my sonne to pay vnto her at day of her mariage 20 marc.
To Doughters Katheryn, Joane and Elizabeth £20 at their mariage. If they die then to my sons but a prest to sing at the aulters of our Lady in the parochez of Maideston and Cranebroke by the space of two yeres, one year at Maideston and one at Cranebroke. (Each son the other heir and if all die then to Robert Brekenden and William Brekenden my brothers children).
Symond my son shall have 40s. yerely by the space of 2 yeres to fynde hym to scole and then to bynde hym prentice and Rychard and Thomas to fynde them to scole by the space of fower yere and then to bynd them prentyse.
I wyll my feoffes delyuer a state to Rycharde Bygg of Cranebroke ofan howse and a dyehowse with 8 acres of lande called Highams with a lytle wasshett that I bought of Mathew Hertrigge, paying to the said Hertrige 3s. 4d. for the estate of the same wasshett and to myn executors for the purchase of the same house and landes £100 sterling and a horse price 40s., sadyll and biydyell and all other hernes.
To Thomas my sonne my landez at Tyseherst [Tilehurst] in Sussex at his age.
