12. Sainberbe
Richard Knatchbull of ye Parish of Mersham, Esquire
being sick and weake in Body etc. To be buryed accordinge to the good
discrecons of my exors.
Towchinge the distn. of all my lands and tenements
whereof I or any other to my use is seised or in fee simple in possession of
reversion I give to my sonne and onely sonne Thomas Knatchbull and his heires
for ever. I give and bequeth to Anne Knatchbull my welbeloved wif £400
besides all the money she hath of mine in her custody and all her aparell,
cheines and jewells and three of my best bedds etc., my coache, coach horses
with fower other of my best borses and geldings. I devise unto my wief three
roomes in my old buildinge at Hatch, she to take her choyce and to use them at
her pleasure so longe as she will remaine there.
All my armor and warlick fur??? I give to my sonne Thomas when he
shall come to his age of 21 yeres (except my best white armor which I give to
my brother Norton).
To Sr Thos Scott my principall bay geldinge. To Sr
John Scott my younge baye horse in my stable. To my brother Thos
Scott my lyttle black bale horse. To my brother Norton Knatchbull the horse
that I had of my Brother Eston. To my cosen John Knatchbull my Baule horse
that was by Watses mare. To my cosen Richard Knatchbull my black horse which
was by Watses mare. To my brother Norton all my Hawkes. To the poore of
Mersham £20. To my Aunte Greene 100 markes. To my Brother Hamon £40. To my
brother Claybrooke £20. To Mr Reignold Blechenden £20. To Mrs
Judeth Hamon £20. To Mrs Jane Honywood £20. To my cosen John
Greene £20. To my godsonne Richd Johnson the sonne of my cosen
Tymothy Johnson £20. To my Brother George Knatchbull £100 when he shall
accom;lish his age of 21 yeares. To Mr Nicholls the Preacher £10.
To my servant Jackson £10. To my servannt John Wood yf he
recover his health £10 besids that which I have paid for him and must paye.
To Nurse Baker £10. To Clement Drewe £10. To Mr John Kemps wif 40s.
To Mr Hollands sonne which is my godsonne £10. To all my servants £5 a peece
other then those before named. I forgive my brother Thomas Knatchbull his
debte and my brother Gibbon half his debte, and my brother Hamon £10 which he
oweth me, and my cosen Gabryell Greene, my cosen John Greene, Mr
Henry Haule, Mr Golyford, Mr Pyckard, Mr
Reignold Blechenden, Mr Ralf Haymon and Middleton all their debts.
give to my cosen Alice Fowle £10.
I will that John Greene shall have the land which he occupieth of
mine in the mersh untill my sonne Thomas shall come to his age of 21, paying
for every acre xijs to mine exors. I will and my minde is that mine
executors shall builde upp my howse accordinge to my plott and that my exors
or the survivor of them shall finish upp my house at Cheyne Courte this somer
followinge.
I will mine exors shall have the custodye of my household stuf
and plate during the minoritie of my sonne Thomas, and all my leases which I
have for yeares duryinge the minoritye of my sonne Thomas.
I bequeth to my exors towards the perfominge of this my laste
will and testament all my stock of cattle and all other my goodes and
chattells not before bequethed.
The executors of this my last will and testamenet I make and
ordeine my Brother Norton Knatchbull and my cosen John Knatchbull. 18 January
1590.

Probate apud London 5 Feb (comp. eccl. Angl) 1590 by oath of
Edward Orwell not pub. proctor of Norton Knatchbull, brother of said deceased
and John Knatchbull ?nepote emsdem. Exors.
