12 May 25 HVIII. Henry Fane of Hadloo
(Hadlow) in Kent Esquire. To be buryed as the bodye of a true Christen man
where as it shall please God. To high aulter of the parishe churche of Hadloo
13/4 and to the same churche ij chalices price of foure poundes.
To the mariage of Lauraunce Salman my servante and of Annes
Adamys my servant if he will marry her 10 marks and if he wil not marry her
then the said 10 marks to be to her mariage. To Lewes Valet my servaunte for
the service he hath doon to me tenne marks. I bequethe yerely to Sir James
Baynes my chapleyne till that he be promoted till a benefice or other lyving
in perpetuytie foure marks.
I will that there shalbe paid to Roger Whaplod for redemption of
the house and landes late John Gamons £10 and the land shall remayne to the
foure sonnes of the saide Gamond and the porcions of that redemption of the
twoo yonger sonnes being in my keping I give freely to them that is to eyther
of theym 60s of the price of the redemption of their parts uppon
condition that for the redemption of the parts of the twoo elder sonnes I or
myn extours may kepe their parts untill or myn extours be recompensed
therefore.
To Budyn Dericks my brewer V marks. Unto Mercy Cooper to her
mariage £3. To Henry Stopperfeeld my godsonne to purchase for him a peace of
land of my brother John Fisshers lying nighe unto the house of the same
enheritaunce of the same Henry 10 marks. To him and his heires male and for
defaulte the same peace of land shall remayne to my brother John Fane and
theirs males and for lacke to my right heires. And if the lande is not
obtained by purchase the said Henry Stopperfelde shalhave at 21 yeres £5.
Unto Wm Welbecke a peace of lande lying in Farleigh or
Barmyng whiche ----- Taylour mason occupiethe for the yerely rent of 5s.
To Thos Solman my servante 40s. To every other of my
household servants 20s.
All my plate shalbe divided between my wife and Raafe Fane and
the saide Raaf to have the better parte and mooste therof and twoo beddes of
downe with sheets etc. and my wife shalhave three of the nexte at her choyse
and the rest to remayne in my saide manner place to thuse of the said Raafe
Fane one bedd excepted whiche I give to Lauraunce Solman.
To my suster Fissher 10 marks. To Dorathie Dering my wifes
daughter £4 and to her suster Elizabeth 5 marks. To every of my goddchildren
2s to pray for my soule. To Alice my wif twoo keyn and a gelding.
To Mestres Studley wife of Robert Studley of London my greatist cowe with her
calf. To John Latter of Hasden V marks.
To the said Alice my wife all that her brasse whiche she brought
with her to me. To Roger Hall of Maydeston surgeon 20s to be paid
to him my myn extours at suche tyme as he hath helyd John Holowbone of his
disease callid the poxe. To John Goding of Hadloo my new sawe with all thing
belonging to yt and 20s. I do forgive Robert Manton all suche
grasse as he had at his comyng yn and also tenne acres of falowe and xj acres
of oots and I give him daye of payment of tenne pounds whiche he hathe in a
stocke fower yeres to be paid to myn extours.
To my brother John wife Xs. To Anne Fissher 10s.
To Elizabeth Tronywall 10s. To Sir John Crosse vycar of Hadloo for
his payne taking and to pray for my soule 20s. To Sir Thos
Nangle to pray for my soule 6/8.
I will that Raaf Fane shalhave thadvantage of my hoole land
callid Sandhurste betwene this and the feaste of Saint Mighell tharchyli
toward his setting up and to remayne to the perfourmacon of my will. To the
same Raaf eight of my best oxen and tenne kyne with a bull. Unto my brother
Richard my best gowne and unto my brother John my seconde best gowne. Residewe
of my wering apparell to Raaf Fane. I forgive John Bake suche debt as he oweth
me and I bequeath to him 26/8. I will Annes Ademys shalhave 5s.
Towardes the repacion of Hartelake brige £4. To Thomas Lakke a mare and a
colte whiche Mantell wold have bought of me and 26/8. To Lauraunce Salmon my
servante a house and twoo gardeynes lying to the same in the parrishe of
Hadloo whiche late were John Arkenbaldes. I give unto my brother John all that
stocke whiche he had at his comyng into the house and lande where he now
dwellithe and my will is that he shall occupie the selfe ferme as long as he
will paying the yerely ferme of £13 to the saide Raafe Fane the same Raaf
keping sufficiante repacions.To the saide Raaf Fane my blacke horse and all
the Residew of my stuffe of household.
My extours shall make deliveraunce unto the said Raaf Fane of
suche my corne now standing on the ground, 16 acres of my best whete the whete
growing in Sandehurst foresaide to be parcell therof and 20 acres of my beste
ots at his owne choyse and the hole grayne as pease and beanes now being on
the grounde whiche liethe aboute this my mannour and dwelling place. To the
same Raaf two of my best laboring mares at his choyse.
Unto Wm Mowseherst sonne of Hugh Mowseherst 16/8 due
to me at myd sommer next. To Raaf Jane twoo mares stagges of the best. Unto
Sir James Banes 10 marks to pray for my soule. To said Raaf Fane all manner my
stuffe of husbandrye, halfe my sheepe and halfe my lambes with all my swyne,
my boote and the crofte that the myller sermes, lying at Hartelake bridge and
the were that Godfrey do the ferme late Goddings with the halfe acre of medowe
grounde lying therto. To Joane Oxley my mayde servante 6/8. To Margery Braner
wif of Robert Braner 40s. To George Ring twoo steeres of iij yeres
olde. I bequethe unto the worshipfull maister Cristofer Hale the Kinges
Attornay five pounds.
Residue of my corne and cattall shall remayne towardes the
perfourmacion of this my will and I make my brytherne Richard and John Fane
extours and if any will not take uppon them the charge then Raaf Fane foresaid
or ells not.
Witnes Syr John Crosse Vicar of Hadloo, Wm Cotton
gentilman, Robert Studley, Thos Lakke, John Dering gentilman, Roger
Hall, surgeon, George Ring.
This is: I will Alice my wife shalhave for terme of her life all
suche landes etc. as I have heretofore appoynted to her joyntour being of the
full yerely value of £20. I will my brother John Fane shalhave to him and his
heirs males all landes and tenements in greate Peckham in Kent which were the
landes and tenements of Thomas Massinger and for defaulte to remayne to the
said Raaf Fane and for lacke of heire male to remayne to theires males of my
brother Richard Fane and for defaulte to theldist sonne of John Fissher of
Hadloo my brother in lawe and for defaute to remayne frome one brother to
another of the saide Fisher sonnes and for defaulte of heires males to remayne
to Thos Wombwell my susters sonne and for defaute to the next
heires generall me Henry Fane, and for defaulte to Raafe Fane and his heires
for ever. I will my manner Place that I dwell in with all the landes therto
adioyning and a certeyne medowe callid Highams lying by Hartelake Bridge shall
remayne unto Raaf Fane and to theires male of his bodye so that he doo not
suffer no recontrye to be had against him therof nor alen nor sell anny of the
saide lande and if he do not demeane or order him selfe as is aboverehersed
then I will the profutes to the findying of my brother John children that is
to say Henry Fane and Richard his sonnes and after their decease to be
entayled as is above writton.
I will after decease of Alice my wife my brother John shalhave
during his life all suche landes etc as I have lymyted to my wife for her
ioynter being in Peckham of the yerelie value of 20 marks and after deceas of
the said John to remayne to theires males of same John and for defaulte to the
saide Raafe Fane, and for defaulte as is above entayled. So that my very
intent and will is that Raaf Fane shalhave all my landes and tenements lying
in Hadldoo and Capell and my brother John all my landes and tenements in
Greate Peckham and Tunbridge. I will that Thos Cressent shalhave my
meswage in Sainte Margarets parrishe next Rochester And my other meswage in
Towne Mallyng to be had to him and his heires. I will that Thos
Fromond shalhave ot him and his heires twoo peaces of land in Hadlowe whiche
he had of me in bargayne.
Residew of my landes and tenements in Hadloo and Tunbridge and my
principall meswage and lands bought of the said Fromond shalbe taken by myn
extours by the tyme of V yeres towardes the perfourman of my testament and
last will and afterward remayne to the said Raaf Fane and his heires and for
defaute to John my brother and for default as is above writton. I will my
brother John Fane shalhave durying his life all my said landes and tenements
in Tonbridge and remayne to theires males of the same John and for lacke to
Raaf Fane and for lacke as above writton. I will the said Cristofer Hales
shalhave to him and his heires all the rent and lordshipp whiche I purchased
of Antonny Wyks and of the extours of Thos Colte with the place of
the courte hold thereof whiche to me belongith and also a peace eof land lying
in Marden whiche Garteford accupieth. [Power to Raaf to make a joyntour if he
marries].
