14 Feb 1549. 4 EVI. Alexander Collen of Lamberherst
within the Countie of Sussex yeoman. My bodye to the earthe where yt pleasith
God yt shalbe buried. I bequeathe foure poundes to be delte in Charitie amongs
the povertie where myne extours seeth most nede.
I will Julyan my wief shall have all my lands and tenements
called Socknesse in the parishe of Brightlyng with farnes, woddes, pastures,
rents, services, arrerages and all ymplements belongyng to the saide tenement
and Furneyse to Alexr Collen my sonne and to his heyres for ever.
Also to the said Alexr my sonne £40 when he conyth to
thage of 23 yeres. To Stephan my sonne £100 when 23.
To Thomas my sonne £100 when 23. To Raaffe my sonne £100 when
23. To Dorathee my doughter £100 at the daye of her mariage. If any dye then
the money ?wylled to them to be devided amongs them ?.
I geve my parte and form of my terme lying in Herstmonteux and
Haylsham to Julyan my wief durying her lyfe and to remayne to Alexander my
sonne.
To the said Alexr the landes which of late I bought of
Dorrell otherwise named Cowarde lying in the parishe of Lamberherst except the
woodes therin growing which woodes I bequeathe to Julyan my wief.
To John myn eldest sonne all my lease and landes that lyeth in
Kent and Sussex not bequeathed after the spce of viij yeres next after my
decease and the meane season to abyde the rewarde of his mother. I will the
same John myn eldest sonne shalhave my lease whiche of late I hadd of Thomas
Sandell (except the woodes whiche I bought theruppon the which woodes I will
and bequeathe to Julyan my wief.
Also I will that Julyan my wief shalhave all my landes, leases
and woodes I nowe have in Lamberherst and Wadherst the space of viij yeres to
paye my bebtes and bequests.
I make Julyan my wyfe and my brother Hugh Collen myn extours and
I will my brother Hugh Collen to have £30.
If Julyan marrye I will she make a clere discharge and accompte
of the ministraton of my goodes etc. and leases and woodes in Lamberherst and
Wadherst assigned to her to paye my debts etc and the same leases and woodes I
will to my brother Hugh Collen and John Corttynden to thent they shall
performe this my last will.
Item: I will she be allowyd of the same accompte one hundred
poundes.
I ordeyne that Nicholas Turke of Wadherst to be overseer.
Wynes hereunto Willm Clerk, Richd Dyne,
Nicholas Turke, Hughe Collen.
Probate 4 Nov 1551 by exor. On 19 May 1593 com to Thomas Collen
son of the said Alexr Collen decd. to adm. goods accordyng to the
will of said deceased p. Juliana, Relictan and Hugonen Collen exors iam def.
