The first part of this Will is written in Latin
11 Oct. 1493. Johannes Jop of Ealdyng (?Yalding).
Names and places mentioned include: Gift to Thomas Rutter £6.13.4. Wife
Agnete. Priest to celebrate in church of Merden for himself and Agnes his
wife. Claprmede grove; Roginerpitts, Thomas Godyng. Pontis of Twyford Gift to
Katerine his wife.
The said Katherine to have peacably all my goods aforsaid on
condition she permit William Mapisden filio mea here and my grain and hay ....
Priest to celebrate and my anniversary to be kept and distributed
to priests clerks and poor in church of Ealdyng yerely 10s.
... This is of all my lands and tenements being in the hands of Wm
Astyn and Richd Stofold and other my feoffes in trust in the
parisshes of Ealdyng and Merden.
I will my feoffes graunt unto Kateryne my wif an annual rent of
33/4 by or goying out of certayn peces of land called Hachefel, Oxenbrige feld,
Litle Thorne mede, taillors croft, Gosepitt and Sherwode reds for time of her
lif. And when the said annytie is graunted and confermed I will that
whensoever Wm Mapisden and Marion his wif my doughter wull desir
and enquir my seid eoffs that they shall delyver unto them a laufull astate of
and in all my lands etc. in parisshes of Ealdng and Merden. Provyded allwaye
that if thissue of their ij bodyes dye livyng the seid Wm and
Marion then I will that the lenger liver of thaym ij shall have all the seid
lands and tenements in feod symple except I will my feoffs shall sell a pece
called taillors croft in the parisshe of Ealdyng besids the land of Thos Goding
and if Wm Mappisden wull beye hit and pay for hit 46/8 in ij yeres
I will he shall have hit and pay therof 20s to the repacion of the
ford brige of Twyford in parte of payment of xls before named and
residue shalbe paied to the hands of Sir Nicholas Noon vicary of Ealdyng and
he to dispose hit to the churche of Ealdyng and elsewher to the helthe of my
soule.
Also if Robert Mappisden live to the age of 21 yeres then I will
he shall have duryng thelves of his fadre and modre 13/4 out of my lands.
These beyng witnesses Sir Nicholas Wyn vicar of Ealdyng, Thos
Godyng, Sir Thos Ruttor. Dated at Ealdyng the yer above writen.
