25 July the day of the blissid Apostle Saint James the yer
1483 and first yer of the reyne of King Richard the third. I William
Taylour Knight citezn and grocer and Alderman and late mair of the Citie
of London being of the age of lxxvij yeres full complete uppon the said day of
the blissid Apostle Saint Jame and being also of hole mynd and good memory
though I be visited with syknesse laud and preising be unto our lord Jhu.
To be buryed in the high chauncell of the parish church of our
lady of Aldermary of London beside the high auter of the same chauncell afor
the ymage ther of our blissid lady wher as the body of Johanne my rather wyf
lieth enterid. To the parsone of the said church for my said sepultur ther to
be had and that he woll pray for my soule £3.6.8. My body to be buryed and
myn enterrament holdyn by myn executors in honest and discrete wise without
wordly pride or vaynglory and I woll that my wyf and my children by clad in
honest blak cloth and to be spent of my goodes but only Cli. To the
werks of the body of the said chirch £10. Gifts to prisons in name and
worship of the blissid Trinite. Placebo and dirige in the said chirch and in
houses of friars for me Johanne late my wyf and Margarite my wiff that now is.
And also that every frer of the order of the ij houses whome it
shall fortune withinne the terme of lx yeres next sayng after my decese to
preache the word of God afor the people openly at Poules Cross and Saint Mary
Spetill pronounce and comende my name and the names of the seid Johanne
sumtyme my wiff and the seid Margarite now my wiff when she shall decese to
the devoute prayers of the people ther present the which my seid bequest in
this article to both the seid house amounteth £30 [Frers Menours and Austyns
of London].
I bequeth to the werks of the bodi of the parish chirch of
Edingbrigg wher in I was cristened to thentent that the parishoners ther have
my soule and the soules of my fader and moder and of the seid Johanne and all
the leves and soules I am bound to pray for and the good estate aforeseid
recomended to almyghti God in their devoute praiers £6.13.4.
To every man of the same parish that holdith a plough of his owen
toward the supportacion of his such plough of almes yef he have nede to take
almes 6/8 and to every ij persones of the same parish that holdyn a plough
togeder toward the supportacion of the seid plough of almes yf their have nede
to take almes to either of them 6/8 and to every por housholder of the same
toune being a man and wif togedere that will take almes and have nede therof
to every such couple 3/4.
And to every of their por creatur of the same parish be yt man or
woman to pray specialle for my soule and the soules aforseid and the goode
estate aforseid 4d the which almes amounteth by ? xli.
To Margarete my tru and entirely welbelovid wiff in the name of her ? after
the custume of the Cite of London CCCCli in money and all myn
houshold hole as yt is withine my dwelling place sett in the parish of our
lady of Aldermary, jewels, plate etc.
To my sister Isabell yf she happyn to overleve me £6.13.4. To
the children of Isabell, Margarete and Margerye my sisters £10 amongs them.
To my cosyn Robert Sturmyn being in my keping all the enournaments belongyng
unto my chapell with my dwelling place aforseid called my ornaments that is to
sey my masse book, my chalice, my vestment with my armes and the frount
countrefrount and curtens belongyng to the auter ther, my saulter with the
ympnes therine, my prymer coured with blew velvet, my boke called borcuis de
consolacione, my newe boke of Engllish that I bought of thex- ecutors of Henry
Nicoll and in redy money CCli when he shall come to his
full age of 26 yeris and no rather.
To Thomas my servunt in my kechin V marc. To John otherwise
called litle Jak child xls.
To John Parker scrivener of London for his labor in conceiving
and writing of this my present testament and of an othir large testament of
myn made afor this and also of my will concernyng the disposicon of all my
landis and tenements X marc.
I will myn exors reward Wm Ludlow of Reding with 33/4
which I ow unto hym by my conscience.
To Maister John the parish preste of the parish chirch of our
blissid lady of Aldermary 40s.
To Johne Shepey my servunt to her marige Cs. To Marion
my servunt to her marige Cs. To Anne my servunt to her marige Cs.
Wher as I have begonne to make a ?parte of the high wey byside
Edinbrigg I woll that the same high wey like as it renneth from Botlee hill to
Edinbrigg and from Edinbrigg to Hertfeld be performyed up of my goodis by myn
extours as it ys begon though the coost therof enterid unto the sume of xl or
lli and that as sone as yt may goodly be don after my decese.
Wher as John Parker scrivener by my comandment and to myn
agrement hath made this my present testament of my meable goodes and also my
testament of the dinise of my gardyns in parish of St Botoulph Withoute
Aldrichgate wherof I am sole seased in my demene as of fee and also my last
will of levelod such as stondith in my feoffes handis I will the testament and
last will stond in their full strengths and vertues.
To Wm Hally my servunt X mark.
Residue to my exors for relevyng of poor prisoners and other
people mariage of por maidens havyng few frendis and litle good etc. foule
weies and brokyn breggis etc.

London.
